This is a rather Anglocentric video, but I think the speaker ex-minister for trade Digby Jones makes some very good points. More importantly he makes them in a way both layman and more knowledgable people will be able to appreciate.

I decided to make this thread in response to the almost fanatical fascination with China Westerners have all over internet forums. Their paranoia that they are going to take over the world without realising the inevitable reciprocity of global economics.

Therefore I ask you to watch the video in its entireity if possible, and then answer the question where do you think your country's role in the new economic order will be?

All of Chinese products are dangerous. There is no rest.

I give up. Let us just sit whilst you type on your computer which has parts from China, on a seat that has leather from China, whilst wearing Chinese made clothes, complaining about China.

I can safely say that you are not from China, no Chinese kid I know is this ignorant.

I am so sick of seeing US flags that say "made in china". That isn't American at all. Some people say that china made flag (I can't tell which country's flag it is, but it resembles a US flag) counted the stars on it and it WAS NOT 50!

And suddenly everyone is a Patriot. Well, instead of looking like a whiny person, man up, do the greatest service you can for your country, and join the army.

But one cannot deny that China is effectively crippling the US economy. Because they sell these products for such low prices, and because they intentionally have their currency lower than the dollar, US companies can't afford to compete with Chinese companies, so many of them do not have good business. Plus with Wal-Mart forcing their producers to make products in foreign nations, the problem just gets worse and worse and worse.

You cant force them to increase their currencey value,
the best thing your government can do is to ban chinese products.

aka, the chinese outsmart the americans when it comes to capitalism.
don't you want them to become communist again? =P all those wars for nothing =( xD

You cant force them to increase their currencey value.

usa isn't forcing them to go up.
china is forcing the value lower then it actualy would be.

chinas trick to stay the cheapest is prety simple and a bit of cheating.
all they do is simply print more money when their value go's up to much. whit more money on the market. this money will get a lower value. so it stays cheaper to produce. wich attracts companys to produce in china.
they have been lowering their value manualy for atleast 15 year or so.

however this has nothing to do whit the usa debt. they just have been spending to much money. you can't blame china for something that you have done yourself.

It's still the consumer's fault for buying them. That's like blaming fast food for not being more expensive. People like low prices.

Isn't that Wal-Marts fault, and not China? It's a capitalist world, you're more competitive, you drive out all competition. And since China can tap into vast labour, it can do so. What's the problem here? Or are the Western Nations intent on artificially prolonging their hold on the hierarchy of power?

Exactly. The USA has ALWAYS had its debt problem but it keeps on borrowing. And who lends them cash? China. Be grateful.

usa owes china only about 20% of their debt.
the other 80% of the debt is owed to other nations.

Less than that, but China holds approximately 1.16 trillion USD of US debt.
