No idea what Eccleston is like privately, he may be nicest bloke in the world, but his acting career has lurched from one role to another, nothing particularly groundbreaking and almost always ends up (TV wise) with him wanting to leave the show so he isn't typecast. The British TV production companies are now reluctant to hire him as a result, as who wants to go to the trouble of hiring someone, developing a character and promoting them, only to have it thrown back in their face by someone who thinks he's better than the role.
His appearances in films haven't warmed him to Hollywood or anyone else for that matter. He lacks presence on the screen and delivers his lines in a wooden fashion.
With Doctor Who, he didn't really last a season as such. It was leaked very quickly after he became Doctor Who that he would only be doing one series, the excuse he gave, he didn't want to be typecast. Later it was alleged he left due to exhaustion, and I think Alan Davis was the first to give him some stick about it in the British media. 5 years later with his career not doing terribly well, Eccleston decides to give an interview to the BBC (linked above) and tell everyone it wasn't his fault he left Doctor Who, it was the naughty crew members who didn't like him.
So, yes, I think he's a bad actor. Not just for his acting, but the way he interacts with production companies, film crews and how he has a prima donna fit when the show he's on becomes popular, believing his own hype and screaming typecast to his agent.
Apparently Fright Night was absolute amazing, I'm taking Chris Hardwick's word for it at the moment. Also, interesting tidbit about Tennant, he was first offered the job when working with the producer on the set of Casanova, somewhat hilarious considering his string of female companions on Dr. Who.
Love DW. right now I've seen more than 10 of the classic series episodes, the 1996 movie, and all of the new series Who. Also is it just me or do some people seem a bit clingy to a doctor. I mean its fine to have your favorite doctor but some people really bash basically any other doctor besides their favorite (especially poor Matt Smith who I think is doing a great job).
Just watched the trailer for the next series looks ok. Looks like it's just showing some clips from the first few episodes. Doesn't show anything to do with Jenna-Louise Coleman but I assume she hasn't filmed anything yet. But it should be fun too have Mark Williams and David Bradley in.
