It ticks me off every time I say merry Christmas to someone they give me a dirty look. Why is it happy holidays sure there is other religions that take Christmas differently but come on its the U.S.A doesn't anybody know why our for fathers came over here, or the true meaning of Christmas. I can't put a cross up in my front yard but a whole Islamic group can build a mosque right next to my neighborhood does that make any sense at all?!?! what are your thoughts?

To be free from religious tyranny is one reason some came.

I find it hard to believe there isn't a church somewhere nearby.

So says the Catholic Church. In reality Jesus was born in the spring(I think), and December 25 was a &quotagan" celebration that Christianity took over.

So nothing to do with the pagan worship of the sun, or the Roman week of lawlessness that led to the raping of women, the forced feeding of chosen victims and ultimately the sacrafice of that victim at the end of the week?

Christians chose the 25th of December as the birth time of Jesus as they hoped to get as many pagans to join them as possible. The sun worshipping pagans continued their week long celebrations from the 17th of December and ran naked through the streets singing, with a slight tip of the hat to the 25th; the end day of the festival.

Christmas is a conglomeration of different religions' ideals and symbols. You have a right to place a cross in your yard, and so do the Muslims to place a Mosque, though I don't think their holidays are celebrated directly on the 25th, so....bad mark on the OP there....

We also celebrate original threads by not creating duplicates. There are two in the Tavern and I'm lenient enough to let them both stay since they are of different topics.
