Hate to burst your bubble, but the ideas of gigantic space robots duking it out on our planet is in no way more realistic than a man who hooks his body up to a miniature reactor and consequently fights evil with his suit of technologically advanced armour.
Yeah nich is kind of right and iron man was imagined way before transformers were even thought of therfore if a guy could imagine iron man before transformers than it kind of leads you to iron man being more original/
Maybe Transformers appeals to you more because it revolves around the common teen boy, while Iron Man revolved around an uber rich, hot, genius inventor.
I like Iron Man. Transformers is very nice, but I know more about the old Transformers, and they clash. I don't know about the old Iron Man, so I don't mind it as much.

Iron Man didn't really change much. The origin story had Tony Stark captured by a North Vietnamese commander who ordered him to build weapons, so he made a suit and escaped. All they did was modernize it to fighting in the Middle East instead of battling Communism. In the old ones, up until 2002, he kept the cover of 'Iron Man is my robotic bodyguard who does stuff' instead of making it public, which dosen't change much other than that it shows his arrogance to basically tell his enemies 'come at me bro'. In the old ones he simply wore the regulator strapped over his chest and eventually got an artificial heart which needed recharging instead of surgically inserting the mechanism, so they skipped over a lot of problems. Overall, the first Iron Man movie did a great job as a true update of the original.
