O_o .... OMG a Carlie appeared!!!... me thinks this is the first time I've seen her on since I started up in July'ish
i would think obesity would be a world event and this would be a large cause of obesity and permissible in the forum.
for all those that say its bad and should be done away with.... i would ask that you go to your local grocery store and check food prices... especially healthy foods. you can't eat healthy for as cheap as you can eat at a fast food restaurant (dollar menu and such) ....what are the people who have 2-4 children and small income to do when you shut these institutions down? its cheaper and can sustain a family easier than health food can... because you can get more for the same price. so if healthy food is overpriced and therefore unavailable to those that need it then i would think cheaper fast food would be a good thing. anyone else have thoughts on this subject?
I hate to break it to you guys but this thread is necro'd - the last post (the one by Carlie) was in May '08 (Does no one check the dates before posting?)
To be somewhat on topic with this - Fast food is certainly bad for you but I'd say it's an acceptable indulgence upon occasion.
Honestly, there is nothing at all bad about fast food. Yes, some of the food has way more calories than normal foods, but that is where a few seconds of looking at the nutritional facts helps out. Just remember, no one is holding a gun to your head and making you eat that 800 calorie hamburger with the 300 calorie fries and a Diet Coke. To be honest, it used to be much worse when McDonald's and the like didn't offer healthy alternatives, but with salads becoming more prominent and healthy alternatives to fries and soda being added in, you have no one to blame but yourself for indulging.
I find fast food convenient, I do a lot of traveling and sometimes it is better to grab a burger and be able to eat while driving, something you really cannot do with most normal foods. You can't blame a company for satisfying its customers' needs, and when it comes down to it fast food isn't bad or evil, I think everyone just needs to exercise some self control.
Everyone says that fast food is unhealthy, but let me just point something out here...
Calories in Big Mac(from McDonalds): 704 Calories in Bon Vie Veal Oscar(aka something that we will see in fast food restaurants when hell freezes over): 959
What I'm saying here is that although fast food restaurants are viewed as very unhealthy fancy foods are unhealthy as well. It's not just the fast food. Fast food restaurants are convenient, fast, and good bang for your buck. Even if they aren't exactly salads(although healthier choices like salads ARE available at fast food restaurants), they are no worse than any other kind of restaurant.
I'd also like to say that beside having a huge amount of calories, a big mac has a ton of saturated fat. From what I read on its nutrition info (on the box), it has 51% of you're daily recommended saturated fat.
I believe that fast food is okay in moderation. It is very fatty, so it is bad to eat there everyday, but it is good if you need a quick meal or don't want to pay a lot for a meal.
If people choose to eat there and are aware of the consequences, then it is an informed transaction - a mutually beneficial agreement. Fast food restaurants are good.
Well, yes most of the meals on their lists are un-healthy but most fast-food restraunts now-a-days have just about the same amount of salads and healthy stuff as dine-ins do. They also kind of help people who don't have a lot of money because I mean Taco Bell $.78?! And you people say you don't have anything to fedd your kids most of the time. 6 person family $6 at McDonalds. Now granted you don't get the full meal; but it's still food!
