I play on ps3 and find the game lags a lot, sometimes disabling auto save and downloading the latest patch(If you have not done so)helps reduce the lag.Hope this helps.
there are mods improving the FPS. there are lots. ranging from 4 fps improvement to 50% increase. i'm not sure they all do what they say. ive got 1 running that said 20% increase. and it works well for me. i don't have the lag moments when comeing out of a loading door anymore. (wich i had befor)
On the PS3, they say that the lag is caused by the game not refreshing itself. All kills, searches, progress, it's all recorded and kept by the hard drive, it's somewhat of a design glitch so a temporary solution is to have your unit restart and shut down so the game would be refreshed.

i remember from oblivion that the console systems was having problems after some time because the safe games of oblivion (skyrim,morrowind,daggerfall,arena) can become realy realy big. the consoles couldn't take so much information.
