Before the Titantic sailed, people said it was unsinkable. The iceberg said otherwise. People said an event like it would never happen again. With all the new technology, it is impossible for a newer ship to sink, right? Wrong. It just happened again. I don't care how sophisticated tech can get, human nature will always be the same. Arrogant, daredevil, and stupid. You can yell at me as much as you want for what I've said, but this is my belief and your contradiction won't make me change it. Post your thoughts here, but keep to the forum rules, please.

Ehhh, I don't think there is anybody who would say this. Ships sink in battle all the time. Also, the Titanic being unsinkable was a myth that was spread around by people, it was never advertised as such.

I didn't mean combat ships, just cruise ships or larger personal craft. And, back when the Titantic was being built, talk about it being unsinkable was the majority of all conversation.

Combat ships should be the least sinkable ships of the day, and they are.

And, back when the Titantic was being built, talk about it being unsinkable was the majority of all conversation.

And it was because it was using new technology that would prevent it from sinking, even if a small hole formed. Hitting an iceberg and ripping a massive hole in the ship would obviously sink it and i doubt anyone back then would argue that if you strip a ship of it's hull, it's going to sink.

Also, nobody said the Costa Concordia (or any modern ship for that matter) was unsinkable, I'm not really sure where your argument is coming from.

I agree, this argument is rather unnecessary. it is common knowledge that the titanic was sinkable, but the myth came along due to the advertisement that it was the best new ship available at that time. people tend to blow things out of proportion that way.

also, the costa concorda, as well as the titanic, was caused by human error. the difference between the two is that they didn't have regulations and rules for being the captain of a ship like we do today. human error was mouch more likely with that ship, but our new sinking was caused by human error that in all ways should've never happened due to the new rules. if the captain was following them, he wouldn't have gotten so close to italy's coast, and sunk.

When did people say this? Besides, this isn't a repeat of the titanic. 1500 people died on the titanic, 32 people died here. And this isn't the first cruise ship to crash since 1912.

I dont know if this is really relevant or not, but the titanic probably wouldnt have sunk if its captain had better training. If he wouldve rammed the iceberg head on, there would have been far fewer casualties and the ship might not have sunk at all... Instead the ship rammed into the iceberg sideways... which is never a good thing.. if you want to read about it.. here you go

I agree with you, the angle at which the ship hit affected the casualty rate by a lot.

your still 2 short.

anyway... whit the titanic, the ice was in the middle of the ocean.
radars didn't pick it up back then because they were not advanced enoufg.
the concordia hited a island because he wanted to get as close as possible to the island.

titanic was bad luck that they hitted that 1 piece of ice.
costa concardia was just stupid and the captains fault.

1 more thing to strenghten the previus post is that the titanic happend during the night. and the concordia in the middle of the day.

the captain of the costa concordia was a fool.
the captain of the titanic had bad luck on his side.

Without thinking of the consequences that would happen.

That goes to show that he shouldn't have been a captain. He didn't look at the dangers and look at what happened.

Peoples are fools.

Meh.. advancing technology just decreases the risk of something like that happening, assuming the captain is doing his work. You are on the side of the above-mentioned fools if you think probabilities are absolutes, and also if you think people always do their jobs.

I don't care how sophisticated tech can get, human nature will always be the same. Arrogant, daredevil, and stupid.

Thank you Cpt. Obvious.

Though there are also a lot of people who aren't like that. 'Human nature' is such an over-generalizing and futile term...

I'm sorry, but I don't see the point you're trying to make. So a ship sunk again, and it had similarities with the Titanic. So people are arrogant. So what?
