Here's a cool topic for anybody with knowledge about modern metal. I've been recently getting into a lot of the newer technical metal bands, like Born of Osiris and Periphery, so I just wanted to bring up this topic here and see what you people have to say about it. Now, what I call a modern/new metal band is any metal band that released their debut album/EP after 2000, even though there are some exceptions.

Anyways, here's a list of my favorite modern metal bands:

1. Protest The Hero:
Genre- Progressive Metalcore
Year Of Creation- 1999
Debut Release- A Calculated Use Of Sound *2003*

2. Whitechapel:
Genre- Deathcore
Year Of Creation- 2006
Debut Release- The Somatic Defilement *2007*

3. Between The Buried And Me
Genre- Progressive Space-Death Metal
Year Of Creation- 2000
Debut Release- Self-Titled LP *2002*

4. Skeletonwitch
Genre- Extreme Metal
Year Of Creation- 2003
Debut Release- At One With Shadow *2004*

5. Toxic Holocaust
Genre- Blackened Thrash Metal
Year Of Creation- 1999
Debut Release- Evil Never Dies *2003*

That's all I've got! Don't be afraid to post your favs; I'm not going to get angry if you post "softcore" bands or whatever.

Thanks!

this is understandable. people are always going to like the stuff they grew up around, and that they listend to in their youth. this is why i like the bands that i do.

Not neccessarily delos... I grew up with a lot of Pop and PopRock during my childhood and I somehow like the Classic Rock music from late 70's and the 80's best... some of that was played when I was even too little to understand anything of what I heard on the radio, so...

And all those bands you guys just suggested are not specifically of the Nu-Metal genre if I'm correct, right? Too heavy for my taste anyway... =)

I agree, although I do love Classic Rock, which I grew up around, I like Classic Rap and most Metal as well. My parents hate my taste in music unless it comes to Classic Rock.

but that's probably just because I'm an Opeth fan.

Opeth is here in Colorado. They are playing at the Fillmore with Mastodon and a few other bands I haven't heard of before.

Wow, I thought this post was going to die real fast! XD

It's nice to see people discussing such an awesome subject with each other. Now I have a few more bands I wanted to throw onto the fire.

First of, there is this AMAZING band I just found out about called Slice The Cake. Imagine Whitechapel meets Messhuggah, meets Rwake; very progressive and heavy. Their one son, "The Man With No Face" is like a heavy metal orchestra piece, similar to Between The Buried And Me, except less spacey. Also, Slice The Cake is an internet band, i.e. the members have NEVER met each other in real life. It's so mind blowing!Seriously, check 'em out!

im really into periphery lately, they arent particularly "new". new enough though

I love Periphery, and I'm willing to call them a very new band.

Awesome! Keep up the discussion!
