With all of the laws effecting our ability of free speech now adays, do you think that the United States is really staying free? what are your thoughts armor games?
But things can change. there is constant change in everything. they may be small changes but it will all sum up into something big
If you're merely listing any possible scenario as part of your argument, it's mere speculation. It's the same as me saying that apples can be blue in the future because things change all the time, hence they are blue.

Want me to compare it? Well Power is like water running along a rock which can be described as will power. for the time being the rock is one whole and is strong but water can eat away at the rock with its constant smashing away at it. the ending product is the rock being broken and the water moving through out the pieces of the rock. Power is stronger than a mans will power, maybe for the moment the willpower will prevail, but the outcome cant change unless taken from the position that is where there is so much power.

No one is questioning that power can corrupt.

However, this is very much disputable and not factual at all, which is where the analogy breaks. How many times have you seen American public officials breaking the checks and balances on power created to restrict them. Take the term limit as an example. If the government was so power hungry, they could easily overturn this term, yet I've hardly seen a case in history apart from Roosevelt and his three terms. Furthermore, before Roosevelt, there wasn't even a clause in the Constitution barring a President from seeking more than 2 terms; however, each President before Roosevelt honoured Washington's precedent of taking only 2 terms. If they were so power hungry, this obligation that wasn't even enforced by law wouldn't have been taken.
So you know, whilst making analogies, remember to back them up with facts, and not brazenly assert out of nothingness.
You have a lot of faith that a country that is still a baby compared to all of the others in the world won't try, like a baby, new and sometimes stupid things.
Also i know that you will say don't say things that i can't back up, but sometimes the best choices are the ones made without previous knowledge

America is one of the world's most developed contemporary democracies. There's nothing infantile about it, except for the ignorant people that live in it.
try, like a baby, new and sometimes stupid things.
As far as I know, America has never been static, but dynamic and constantly changing.

I see. When you can't respond to an argument, pulling an old adage out is the way out?
YES! With obama. It can all change if Rick Santorum is the new president. Or Mitt Romney. I don't really care. Anyone but obama.
As far as I know, America has never been static, but dynamic and constantly changing.
Ever heard of the '60s? With racism. And don't forget that there was slavery a long time ago! No this country isn't perfect- but it's the best in the world. Name a country better than America.
The USA still has quite a grounded and solid principle of freedom of speech.
Then why does obama have a big control of the media?
I support what Nichodemus is saying on this argument. 'Nuff said.
If you can't beat him. (Which almost no one can) Just agree and coast through this thread.
From what I am seeing from the country above you, NO. You're government is to transparent for that to ever succeed. Even if it came near to that some conspiracy theorist will blow the wistle before it happens. And also, if you haven't noticed, you're politicians are only getting dumber. They're ideas get stonewalled, and they crumble en masse if anything near five percent of the population goes against one bill.
Of course their willpower is weak, but even with power, none of them are smart enough to use it. You're government is to divided and inneficient to succeed in taking their citizens over.
the reason why i opened this topic was to make people look a little deeper into the American government and not just the icing on the cake. Too me it just seems like you are not looking skin deep at this. The government is making a building to listen in on every email and every cell phone call that we send out or receive. they have tried passing bill that would limit our freedom of speech, and in some cases they see protesting as a minor act of terrorism, im not going to continuously argue this with you about this one thing, I just want people to look beneath the skin.

The Democrats are less tranparent than the Republicans yes, but they can never get anything done thanks to the divided democracy first world countries have.
Name a country better than America.
Challenge accepted. Hmm... let me think... CANADA
Then why does obama have a big control of the media?
most places in Europe be cause they are more open-minded and aren't as controlling as America is becoming. Also you can get into another country very fast for vacation.

I think you misread me. I said America has largely never been static, but is constantly changing; it's largely liberal by relative standards. So, I don't know what your racism example is supposed to highlight at all.
Then why does obama have a big control of the media?
As stated earlier, no evidence, no assertions. It's kind of tiring seeing you diss Obama without actually putting forth examples. So you know, scoot off and find some, or don't even bring up the point, because a point without evidence won't even stand.
Too me it just seems like you are not looking skin deep at this.
Thank you, because that means we're looking at the issue in-depth, not shallow and skin-deep.
they have tried passing bill that would limit our freedom of speech,
It failed to pass. I see this as quite a clear indication that the political support in the government for it was not in the absolute majority.
The government is making a building to listen in on every email and every cell phone call that we send out or receive.
and in some cases they see protesting as a minor act of terrorism,
I'm sorry, but I've never seen the US government ever call such protests ''terrorism''. Don't be hyperbolic.
The government is making a building to listen in on every email and every cell phone call that we send out or receive.
Don't exaggerate this; the USA has the powers to peruse any citizen's email if there's a court order. This has definitely got to be rectified, but the government DOES NOT have a building somewhere, filled with officials reading every SINGLE email one sends.
most places in Europe be cause they are more open-minded and aren't as controlling as America is becoming.
I suggest you read up on the multicultural conflicts erupting in their societies recently; especially those between the locals and immigrants, especially, especially Muslim immigrants. How about Sarkozy cracking down and deporting the Roma people? Suddenly it isn't so rosy after all.
Also you can get into another country very fast for vacation.
That's because of the EU's system of not requiring visas due to the Schengen Agreement. Because you know, Europe is trying to come together as a Union? Which is wholly unrelated to governments being power-hungry. Don't conflate them!
sorry about that, i meant to type you are looking at this skin deep.
If you don't want a ''skin deep'' (Another way of weasling your way out?) discussion, start one. Point out the problems you see with the innate political system, and not throw up minor examples.
Why are you arguing about why i think some other place might be better? Your getting off topic with going into a separate argument about my opinion, go make a different topic if you want to argue about that related to it.
