Well, the previous months old Presidential thread has been relegated to the Old News Dump, so I've decided to start a new one, especially because of events that have come to pass since the last time we discussed the issue, such as Gingrich's slump, and Santorum's surge.
So anyway, what is your take on the current race? Why are Gingrich and Paul still attempting to compete when they're chances are all but dashed? Even Santorum has such a slim chance mathematically of accruing all the necessary delegates. But his upset wins especially in the South have shown how Romney still has not gotten the support of important sections of the Republican electorate; in almost all states he has won, he has gotten lukewarm support.
So, any predictions on this rather humorous race?
And before I forget to throw in the customary dig at Santorum; Santorum to all those who don't know, has another meaning since 2003, one that more aptly suits him. I'm sure all of you know what is.
No, I do not hate Catholics. I may not agree on a lot of things they believe in, but I don't hate them. They're better than atheists. And I agree with deathbewithyou.
Ron Paul speaks an ideology that is consistent. He doesn't pick and choose which topics appeal to the people at the time, he is open about everything. Where one candidate may keep their mouths closed on an issue so that they don't tarnish their image, Ron Paul speaks his mind. Ron Paul tells the truth as he sees it. Whether you agree with Ron Paul or not, there is no denying that Ron Paul is the most honest candidate.
Yes, I'm glad he tells the truth. Because now I know what he really believes and I don't like it.
Anyone but obama and ron paul 2012!
In short, Ron Paul is probably the only candidate who actually convinces people to question their political ideas
He didn't convince me to change my ideas.
Romney is having more luck but is getting beat down cuz he voted for Obamacare,
Romney does not support obama. In his speeches he is always attacking obama(I love listening to it. Down with obama!).
I like Santorum cuz he's an Evangelical Christian. I like Romney cuz he brought the olympics back up before it went bankrupt. If he can save the olympics, he can save America(America needs to be saved because obama ruined it).
Because I usually believe everything they believe. Like we have the same ideas on abortion, getting rid of obama...
And this is how the idiot masses are made.
last place ron paul.Yes, I'm glad he tells the truth. Because now I know what he really believes and I don't like it.
So you don't like knowing what you're actually voting for? You'd rather vote for a two faced opaque rat just because he shares a religion? What has the American Election System come to?
Yes, I'm glad he tells the truth. Because now I know what he really believes and I don't like it.
What don't you like about Ron Paul? Does it have to do with ending pointless wars? Ending the Fed? Balancing the budget? Decreasing government spending as a means of decreasing debt? Do you dislike Ron Paul's support for a truly free market? Do you dislike the idea of ending the drug war? Enlighten me.
He didn't convince me to change my ideas.
Your point is?
Romney does not support obama. In his speeches he is always attacking obama(I love listening to it. Down with obama!).
Do tell us why you disagree with Obama and what Romney is saying that you agree with, because I honestly don't see much change coming from Romney.
First of all, there are many different Christians with various different opinions when it comes to politics. Second, you can't support someone just because they want to get rid of Obama. Seriously, every candidate running for president wants Obama out of office, so your logic really doesn't fit.
I support freedom. I believe that people should do as they please as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. I don't support candidates who believe in enforcing morality like Santorum. I support the non-aggression principle.
I don't support candidates who believe in enforcing morality like Santorum.
What he promotes isn't even morality. It's bigotry and homophobia.
He didn't convince me to change my ideas.
Then you didn't listen for more than three minutes.
I like Romney cuz he brought the olympics back up before it went bankrupt. If he can save the olympics, he can save America(America needs to be saved because obama ruined it).
The Olympics were going bankrupt? I find that hard to beleive. (Please feel free to correct me, because I honestly have never heard of this)
Anyways, Obama made your country a bit more respectable on the International scale. (except when you all ignored the health care bill, which made you look like paranoid ultra nationalists) Bush wrecked your country, so stop taking illegitamate pot shots on the best president you've had in over a decade.
Rick Santorum is a bigot.
By saying/linking that, you are now my favorite Mod.
No, I do not hate Catholics. I may not agree on a lot of things they believe in, but I don't hate them. They're better than atheists. And I agree with deathbewithyou.
lol, atheists at least can see santorum for what he really is.
Yes, I'm glad he tells the truth. Because now I know what he really believes and I don't like it.
ignorance is bliss, or in this case, ignorance is blessed. what you are saying is that you want yourself to be completely blinded by political rhetoric, and treachery.
He didn't convince me to change my ideas.
you're ultra-conservative without even knowing what that means. hooray!
Romney does not support obama. In his speeches he is always attacking obama(I love listening to it. Down with obama!).
political rhetoric designed to sway more voters in his favor. it seems it's working for the less educated.
I like Santorum cuz he's an Evangelical Christian.
another reason why religion is dangerous. it leads to constant ignorance, almost to the level of big brother's supporters.
(America needs to be saved because obama ruined it).
trust me, he did a very good job with what he had to work with. it certainly didn't help that the fool grover norquist made the republican officials sign that tax pledge.
I usually trust Christians. But that's not the only reason I support him.
care to prove that by explaining why you support him other than religious reasons?
Because I usually believe everything they believe. Like we have the same ideas on abortion, getting rid of obama...
...you do realize that your religion's denominations can't even agree with eachother, what makes you think that a christian is automatically a good person (the people of this section have certainly proved otherwise)
Rick Santorum is a bigot.
best line from a mod that I have heard in a long time.
Oh god... if that statement was mud and I was a pig I'd SOOOOOO roll around in it all day...
Granted I am a die-hard Republican Capitalist Profit-Obsessed Pig, but that's beside the point. I loathe Santorum. His religious ideals and his smug little grin... GAH!
Look, I have no qualm with your religion and what not.. but I'll get to that point in a little bit.
1. Paul and Gingrich are out, they have little hope ( i wanted Gingrich) 2. Santorum and Romney are battling it out. Romney is having more luck but is getting beat down cuz he voted for Obamacare, which was dumb. Santorum is slowing falling out but he still has a very good chance. Now, with no Gingrich, idk who i want to win, i'm too young to vote, good cuz i have no idea WHO to vote for XD
Now this is me in a nutshell. The thing about Romney is that he's a moderate and in a perfect world, the Republicans would get their Libertarian (though he says he's not) Ron Paul in. After two iffy Republican Presidents (Ze Bushes) it's going to be hard to get a more right-wing guy into office. The Republican Party, unfortunately, needs Romney to re-open the White House to the GOP, to start a movement back towards a Conservative America.
I was a big Gingrich guy... but he's a little too off his rocker to really be President. I think Speaker is just right for him. Just right.
Now back to our smug friend Santorum...
I like Santorum cuz he's an Evangelical Christian.
Ahem.
Based on your call there, it can be assumed that you'd vote for a 35 year-old American-born Man-Child simply because he's an Evangelical Christian. Really, there's nothing else you've stated that helps prop up your argument as to why Santorum is the right choice.
Also, you just admitted to not thinking for yourself.
What's up with the water around here? Where did all this Win come from?
you're ultra-conservative without even knowing what that means. hooray!
In truth, he's a moderate Conservative. Despite Macfan's claims at hatred against the left, his focus on a sole controlling force in the government (God) combined with the hate against the actual ultra-conservative (the aforementioned Ron Paul the Libertarian) creates an ideal system that may still remain on the right end of the political spectrum, but still maintains a far distance from Conservatives like Highfire and I.
I mean were voting between TWO darn candidates, really, I mean how much "choosing are leaders" are we actually doing here?
On topic, the republicans will not win next autumn, this is why no serious candidate as wasted time in the primaries. You have two *cough* losers in head right now and they both know there going to loose. I think there doing it for attention

The Two-Party system is often called into question, but one must remember the flaws that come with a multiple-party election (by multiple I mean 3+ Parties).
With only two candidates, it can be assured that over 50% of the nation will be happy and want the guy who got voted in. With multiple candidates, someone with only 30-ish% of the votes would get voted in.
The perfect example that displays the flaws in the Multiple Party system is the German election in the late 1930's where only 33-odd percent of Germans voted in a certain National Socialistic Austrian, enabling him to reach the height of power and create the largest global conflict ever seen.

I think you underestimate Romney. He's a solid Moderate and, as I've stated, is a good segue into a Conservative White House. I really think that the only thing that's going to kill the Republican Party is the Republican Party. It's just like Roosevelt's third term election, where Progressives and Republicans were divided, if the party is divided then the vote will go to the other guy. Santorum and Romney are verbally attacking each other too harshly, creating further tension between the two Republican factions and endangering there being any chance of a Republican President from 2013 to '17.
Granted, this is what we saw in 2008, where Hillary and Barack supporters seemed to go at each other's throats, but co-operation between the two post-nomination enabled a united Democratic party. We see this with Santorum and Gingrich, who appear to to be gearing up to form a "Dream Team" of sorts, but Gingrich just doesn't have enough influence and delegates behind him to be able to mirror the success of the '08 Democrats.
It'll be a tough slog, but I'm pretty sure Romney will come out on top this year.
