I find it quite funny seeing as they rage on cod when they die, especially when their playing online and they keep dying plus it's fun for them until they learn that they suck XP. As for my opinion I say it's okay as long as theirs no profanity in the game, especially if the kid's pretty mature.
it depends on the maturity of the child in my opinion. i was mature enough to play such games but games like these never interested me. my little brother is in no way mature enough (my father still got him gta when he was 8 though XD).
but meh... children who arent mature enough probably have no idea whats going on in those games anyway. i find more of a waste of money then anything else.
sorry for double, just rememered another thing i wanted to say. the rating system is pretty horibble. if im not wrong they rated the legend of zelda: spirit tracks (or was it phantom glass?) 12+ because of "violence". i have no idea where in this game there is violence.... unless monsters glowing in red and turn into purple smoke is something children cant bare.... and in that case the lion king should be rated 16+...
playing rated m games, showing up in groups at theaters to watch r movies, acting like they are much older than they are with their feauxlationships that consist of holding hands at lunch and then the more serious ones that are ridiculous and end up with some 11 year old being pregnant....
I think ESRB rating should be little bit less strict (like Halo, Cod or stuff would be 15+ or 16+) but people should start caring about it. When we play games it doesn't change our minds (unless we play 10 hrs daily) But when 6-10 yrs old play it affects them a lot (in my country there was recently case where few boys killed girl because they thought it will be fun - based on GTA). That's why I'm really furious when I play Halo and I hear 10 yrs old boy shouting: **** you! on everybody.
The problem is not the games, the ESRB is an effective means of informing the public about what content is present in a game. It is then up to the parents of children to administrate what content they want their kids to be involved with. As the years go on and the parent-child-video game relationship has been without tumultuous cases, then there is no reason why parents wouldn't purchase more games with mature themes for their children.
Again, it's all up the the parents. The ESRB is there to generalize an area of maturity where the game content lies, then specify what exactly what puts the game in that region of maturity.
When discussing the presence of children with single-digit years under their belts competing in a competitive console multiplayer theater, there's always a mute button ^_^.

I request a source and hard evidence that the boys were influenced by the revolutionary open-world sandbox series, please.
And, like a broken record, I'll run the parents card. It is the duty of the parents to not buy their kids games if they (the children) are not mentally capable of separating concepts of a video game and concepts of real life. Video games are not babysitters -_-*
I don't worry about it, if they're squeking and/or using profanity i simply mute them and never un-mute them. It amazes me how people over look the mute option and instead decide to try and argue with the kids. At that point, i usually mute the guy who is arguing with the kid...
Rated M shouldn't be played by anyone younger than 15 in my opinion.
Well in ESRB's opinion, no one under 17 should be playing M games. I really don't see why M games are only for 17 and up because really E games have just as much violence, the only difference is one has no blood or gore, but does that really change anything? It's still the concept of "once I defeat this person, they will not come back". Only real thing I could see something being M for is suggestive themes, but really if you are young enough that it would be considered innappropriate for you, then you probably won't understand it anyway.
i dont care cause even when i was 10 years old i was playing M rated games but i dont really care just let them have fun if your playing cod then mute them

No, in the ESRB's opinion, there is a region of maturity that, according to them, only 17 year-olds can definitely handle in terms of separating reality from the game and not being "emotionally scarred" by the more graphic/sexually explicit gameplay features.
I really don't see why M games are only for 17 and up because really E games have just as much violence,
It's all about the ability for the player to relate to the content being presented. Think Ratchet and Clank combat versus Halo combat.
but does that really change anything?
To a surprisingly larger-than-you'd-think portion of the population? Yea, it does.
but really if you are young enough that it would be considered innappropriate for you, then you probably won't understand it anyway.
And then the kid repeats the sexually explicit/verbally vulgar content shrouded in a cloud of unknowingness.
I've said this too many times to count;
It is up to the ESRB to establish general regions of maturity where games lie, and provide specific details as to why the game lies in whatever particular region it inhabits. From there it is up to the parents to research the content of the games and make the executive decisions on to-buy or not-to-buy.
The ESRB isn't law, it is merely an effective manner at displaying the degree of mature content present in an interactive medium.

I cannot find source I've seen it in TV news. Those kids said they thought that murder will be fun and they also said they thought that based on GTA (they said some game I don't really remember if it's GTA)
Appareantly some people play games just to see 18+ content. There was comment at Metacritics about Skyward Sword (it got erased) where somebody said: This game sucks because there's no nudity or blood.
You can see just about everything on the news...they report what they think people will watch, it doesn't have much to do with the truth or importance.
Those kids said they thought that murder will be fun and they also said they thought that based on GTA (they said some game I don't really remember if it's GTA)
And how much do you want to bet that they had some sort of underlying psychological problems in the first place, that that incident wasn't the first violent one, and that even without ever having played GTA they still would have done something similar?
This game sucks because there's no nudity or blood.
Yes, some people are like that.
Personally, over half of the best games I've ever played were E or T, and no blood in most of the T ones. Only a scant few M's at all.
