I've never even heard of that, but he's my best friend and everyone that knows him knows he never lies, and trust me, he dousn't, but i'm not sure this time. Tell your friend he's half-and-half correct. A new Elder Scrolls is coming out next year, but it's not in the same line as Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim. The new game is an online Elder Scrolls MMORPG, a game in the style of World of Warcraft or Star Wars: The Old Republic.
And do you have any idea how long it takes to make an Elder Scrolls game? Oblivion was released in 2006, and Skyrim made its debut in 2011, five years of potential development time.
Bethesda isn't stupid (unlike some developers... Ubisoft Montreal comes to mind) and they know that over-saturation of the industry with Elder Scrolls games will make the community come off with a stale response with every new release. To suggest that such a high-respected franchise would McVideoGame their way into the next generation is an insult to all the time and effort Bethesda puts into their games.

I can't find it but I believe they started development of Skyrim before Oblivion was released. Well, the idea part of development anyways.
