... 900 mph? I think you got miles confused with kilometres. An average plane cruises at around 500 knots, or 575 ground mph. And who said the plane was nose-diving? There's virtually no chance for a plane to reach that speed, unless it starts nosediving immediately as it reaches top speed, or if it's a MiG(any type).
But, still, I'd rather die in a plane crash than a car accident. Firstly, there's hardly any chance you'll survive in a crash of a 100 T aluminium can full of fuel. And also, I can see it coming, (unless somehow the plane crashes into another one) so I can enjoy my last moments listening to my favorite song!
