Spongebob is hilarious, there's no question about that.
I actually think the show is increasing in quality. I find myself laughing more at the newer episodes than I ever did at the old ones. My favorite so far is "Mr Krabs Takes a Vacation" and I'm waiting for it to appear on Netflix. Right now they don't have anything past 2006, so it's disappointing for the time being.
I like Spongebob however I have to disagree with Ernie15. Don't get me wrong, Spongebob is still great. However, I do not like the newest episodes coming out. I will still laugh, but I find myself laughing less as more episodes come out. Or maybe it's not Spongebob, maybe i'm just getting older and more mature. 0_o
Or maybe it's not Spongebob, maybe i'm just getting older and more mature.
That's the most likely scenario, at least from my standpoint. I was in my late teens when the show first came out, so I was already above the average viewing age and I still found it hilarious. I haven't matured considerably since then, and I find the new episodes funnier than the old ones; but I don't find the old ones any funnier than I did before.
Personally I stand by my point about the show's quality improving as they make more episodes.
I didn't like it at first because I thought it was odd, but then I realised it wasn't too bad after all. The very earliest episodes were on the childish side, but after a few went by it got more funny.
belive me, its not you getting older, is the show getting worse.
the first 1-3, maybe 4 seasons were good. very good. because it had a little Satire and humor which you can understand one way as a child, and another way as an adult. in the new episodes, its shade away. like teh starving fish say in the "colored Crabby Patty" episode: "what is the theme [now]? under water? its boring!" look like they forgot that they live underwater, and just making lausy episodes, with a single punchline in the end. the plots getting weaker and have less jokes in them too.
its not you getting older, is the show getting worse.
The show is much different from what it was like originally, but I wouldn't say it's getting worse. It's straying further away from how many long-time viewers ideally see it, but the quality of the show is not decreasing just because the show itself is going in a different direction.
Researching old episodes, there are a lot of adult euphemisms sprinkled in each one!
No doubt you'll find at least one in every episode. You just have to look hard for some of them.
......I don't like Spongebob. I watched a few episodes and I didn't really like it. It was slightly funny but I didn't find it that good. So let the comments fly at me.
There is a gap between the good episodes and the drab ones... when an episode is funny, it's either REALLY funny, or just a few laughs here and there... what the show lacks is balance!
Hit-and-miss? Lack of balance? That's a bit much. Sure, there may be a couple episodes with fewer laughs than others, but there isn't just some big gap between episode quality. Everything in between exists too.
I'm surprised it's still on the air. Most cartoons from the 90s to early 2000s have been canceled. I used to watch it a lot when I was a kid and it was hilarious, but I haven't seen a new episode in a while. I think the last thing I saw from Spongebob was the movie a few years back.

Most cartoons from that era are not Spongebob.

The movie came out in 2004, so unless you've seen it more recently than that, you need to brush up on your Spongebob.
I'm sure you'll find it at least as hilarious as you did 8 years ago.
It's the only good show left on TV..well one of them.
In terms of shows still making new episodes, yes, it's one of the few great ones left. But it's too great to get knocked off the air, so we can expect to see it for a long time in the future.
They made Spongebob more annoying than he was a few years back. In every episode I see he has to cry for some reason. He wasn't like that way back. Patrick has gotten funnier though, in a dumb way.
