Adventure of a Forumnaut is a second-person story that will grow as time goes on. It is not intended to be read sequentially post by post, although sections of it may be sequential. Instead, you, the Forumnaut, will choose your path in this story. Updates will probably be infrequent and occur in chunks.
The Beginning
You are a nobody from the big city. You are bored and looking for adventures. It is time you left the lazy comforts of civilization and made your way into the world, going on journeys, exploring the faraway places, saving small villages from bandits, and getting loot from killing dragons.
You head out on your adventure, not knowing where you are going with nothing but the clothes on your back. North seemed like a great idea. After walking a mile past the walls of the citadel on the paths through the farmlands, you decide to rest on a rock. You've never walked so much in your life.
You head to the market to stock up on supplies. You pick up some bread and a waterskin. That should be enough for at least a few days of travel. You also purchase a cheap copy of The Bestiary of Armor Games. This should be enough to help you get by and ease your transition from comfy city life to a less comfy life of the road.
_____
- Head out.
You grab a worn but warm coat and head out into the world. North seemed like a great idea. You've always wanted to see the majesty of snowy forests of the North you've heard so much about. After walking a mile past the walls of the citadel on the paths through the farmlands, you decide to rest on a rock. You've never walked so much in your life.
You follow the trail of blood further down the road. A bloodied traveler rests against the base of a tree. He looks like he was ravaged by a wild animal, perhaps a wolf. Wolves were known to roam the countryside closer to the farmlands when food was scarce and they could not get at the livestock in the pastures. There is no sign of a wolf anywhere.
_____
- Return to the safety and comfort of the citadel.
- Call out to him.
- Loot his body.
You ignore the trail of blood. Whatever it is, it's not your problem. These things were better dealt with by the knight-champions that maintained order.
_____
- Continue on down the road.
You call out to him. There is no answer, but you think he moved. As you approach, you are more sure that he is still alive. You are close enough to touch him now. His clothes are torn, dirtied, and bloodied. He weakly motionss to a small leather pouch laying nearby and rasps the words "are knobby".
The traveler appears to have died from his wounds. You approach to loot his body, but to your surprise and to your ruin, the traveler was very much still alive. He still had enough strength to mortally wound you with his dagger, thinking you were the beast returned.
You picked up the small leather pouch and untie the knot keeping it closed. As you tip the bag over to expose its contents, a small ampoule of yellowish liquid falls into your palm. You recall the stories your grandparents used to tell you when you were younger. Was this the nectar of the gods?
And what was "are knobby"?
_____
- Open the ampoule and drink the contents. (to be continued...)
- Stow the ampoule and continue down the road. (to be continued...)
You continue down the road. Eventually, you come across a travelling merchant at the side of the road. He smiles and waves at you from his modest horse-drawn cart. You are not interested in his luxury wares. At your journey's end, you will be a rich and famous adventurer and an envy to even th richest merchants. Perhaps the merchant could give you a ride.
_____
- Ask for a ride. (to be continued...)
- Continue walking. (to be continued...)
