So I've just thought of this idea today. I've thought about having a forum game RPGIsh thing about Town of Salem. It's basically a game that's a mix of an RPG and a tournament.

For those who don't know, Town of Salem is kind of like a detective kind of game with three kinds of groups.

There's Town, which is a team trying to find the mafia, Serial Killers, Witches, etc. However, you don't know who anyone is, not even if they're on your team. So depending on your role, you could be killing the mayor for all you know and would never even know.

There's Mafia, which is also a team but unlike town, the mafia knows who is on their team. Mafia's goal is to kill off all the Townspeople and anyone else in their way.

And the final is neutral, which isn't a team. Neutral is basically a lone wolf kind of role where you have to kill or survive to win.

What the game is truly about is lying and deceiving each other in order to avoid being lynched or killed. Some people take the silent approach while others speak in order to get people lynched.

I have nothing set in stone yet and things are being planned, but I would like to know if anyone would be interested in it.

If there are any other questions or suggestions, ask me or suggest to me here.

I would be interested in this but there's a problem how would you tell people who they are? If you tell someone he's the werewolf everyone else can see your post and see he's the werewolf. Also if someone posts using there ability eveeyone will know they're that person.

I'm happy to join if you explain how it will work. You might want to remove some of the more complicated roles.

So, in fact, you want to make a Forum Mafia game? The bad part is that this forum doesn't have any kind of PMing, making it nearly impossible to play it here.

The thing with the PMing is that I can make a separate email for this and you can all just email me. Then I can give you your roles.

You might want to remove some of the more complicated roles.

Which roles would that be?

But what about:

  • communication between Mafia in night, Medium with the graveyard, Jailor with the Jailed and so on?
  • whispers (&Spy)? They'll lose their meaning as well, either with the Jester-playthrough or during the Trials.
  • talking when blackmailed?

communication between Mafia in night,

I'll give Mafia an email to a chat for specifically Mafia only. Something like Chatango where the text stays until it is deleted. However this is a problem with Spy as the mafia will see that someone is online, unless they're shown as anon. But even then they'll still know the presence of a spy.

Medium with the graveyard,

Same thing with the dead, I'll have a chat for the dead and I'll give Medium the chat.

Jailor with the Jailed and so on?

Same thing as above.

whispers

I just simply won't include them if I can't find anything to help me with those. There could be a private chat thing but the thing with that, is the spy has to somehow see them.

Of course I could make a chat with just me and the spy and give him what people are saying, but again, if it's a private chat I won't be able to see it.

Jester-playthrough

What do you mean by this? I've never heard of a Jester-playthrough.

talking when blackmailed?

Then you just don't talk. I could possibly get a mod to edit or delete the post as well if they do talk.

couldn't the dead just tell the medium who killed them?

Well, when you intentionally try to raise suspicion for whispering someone and pretend to not know about anything when people ask you about that, or you knowingly mess up your whisper. Something like this. It's called Jester/Exec-playthrough. It works better with Jester, because you have a big chance of being lynched, but it can work with an Exec, too.

The dead don't know who killed them.

This seems unnecessarily complicated, R2.

Hey, I'm open to suggestions to make it more simple. It's just that without some kind of private messaging system on ArmorGames it's resulting me into doing this weird chat thing.

Well, when you intentionally try to raise suspicion for whispering someone and pretend to not know about anything when people ask you about that, or you knowingly mess up your whisper.

Well you can get yourself lynched by other means. I don't see why this specific way is important.

than what does the medium talk about with the dead?

Whatever the medium wants to talk about. Or they can just observe to see what the dead say.

I've actually decided to give up on this because as I think about it, this is really a dull idea for a forum game and should stay as an interactive detective/strategy game.

What if we all got together and played on the actual Town of Salem. I know we have conflicting time zones and all but it just seems a bit simpler than this. I dunno, just a thought.
