Puppy Palace
#1 Halloween Fright
A Special.
High above, deep in the clouds, laid a mystical, hidden kingdom ruled by puppies of all kinds. In the center of this fascinating city was a grand palace made from copper, silver and gold. This castle was painted an elegant white, with large thin paw print windows scattered across the walls. The double triangular roofs were painted a bright, cheery red, with tons of puppy sentries patrolling the center. Way up on top, were the two flags of the current monarchs flapping in the gusting wind. Grand Steel-enforced bulletproof doors were the only way into the castle, and out, and patrolled day and night by more soldiers. Such a place could only be a speck of imagination in a humanâs mind, but actually existed.
Today was the day before Halloween, and everyone was making preparations for one of the most loved festivals in doggy history. It was also to be one of the most dangerous nights of the year, so the palace had doubled the guards. Tons of puppies strolled here and there on the streets, usually carrying cranberries or pumpkins or candy. Nobody here was allowed to trick-or-treat, so everyone usually had his or her own supply of candy to enjoy during this holiday. It seemed like a usual routine, but nobody would have thought that this would have been one of the scariest Halloweens ever, or else the king would have been even more wary of his safety. However, fate cannot be known or decided until it happens. That is a fact.
Since the palace was closed on the days around Halloween, the guards usually had nothing to do. They tried to pass the time by playing cards, practicing sword moves, chatting, anything as long as it wasnât against the rules. However, there still wasnât a time that the guards werenât bored on a holiday. This time was no difference. On guard currently were the fierce trio, Lieutenant Poppy, Sergeant Praw, and Private Plam. They had already worked together for a few years, so they knew how it was like. They had to be on guard all Halloween, so they were very well prepared for the endless boredom that was yet to come. The day slowly passed, with nothing happening as usual, and they decided to pack in for the night. During the evening, they always had one guard sleeping with the other two keeping watch. They knew that usually it was not needed, but to be paid well and to stay safe, one had to be prepared. After what seemed like a year, dawn finally broke out.

âUgh, my legs feel like rubber!â groaned Praw, having kept watch for 3 hours straight.
âOh câmon Praw, Iâve kept watch with you for the whole time too! Youâll never become a lieutenant this way!â Poppy pointed out, clubbing Praw with her paw.
âHey, todayâs Halloween!â Plam remembered, who was waked up by the conversation.
âThe king bought Pumpkins yesterday, I think he wanted us to take them and set them up beside the palace doors.â Praw barked. Praw and Plam went inside to get the pumpkins, while Poppy stood outside, keeping watch and waiting. After a few crashes, Praw and Plam managed to drag all the pumpkins outside, and quickly put them in the desired position. They washed their paws in a small puddle near the entrance that had never dried up for the past 2 years, after a large rainstorm.
âHey, guys, come over here quickâ Poppy woofed. Praw and Plam quickly dried off their paws and hurried over to where Poppy was standing.
âAre pumpkinâs eyes supposed to glow?â Poppy growled.
âNot that I have ever heard ofâ barked Praw, extending an arm to check out the pumpkin. Plam quickly batted his arm away before Praw could touch.
âWhat did you do that for?!â growled Praw angrily.
âItâs haunted!â Plam whimpered silently. The pumpkinâs eyes flashed in an evil smirk, and tension crackled through the 3 dogs huddled around it.
âShould we just throw it away?â Poppy whispered.
âWeâll get in big trouble with the kind if we do. Heâll never believe this if we told him!â reasoned Plam.
âI donât care! We have to do our jobâ Poppy barked, reaching for the pumpkin, but only to pull her paw back as the pumpkin began to violently shake.
âToo late!â Praw gasped, rearing back. The pumpkin released a few agonized groans, and then started to slowly crack. Jagged lines appeared on the hard shell, and it began to split into pieces. Then suddenly, the pumpkin exploded without warning, sending small bits and pieces everywhere. The three puppies dived for cover, not wanting to know just what was lurking inside. Then everything was black.
By the way, if your wondering, those are quotation marks.
Sorry for 3 posts, let me try this, I saved on notepad.
