Stalin was pretty much a terrorist more than anything else, enslaving 1/6 of the earth's land under a strict communist rule. However, Stalin's five year plans and pushes for industrialization might have saved the world from another harsh regime that sought to take over the world by storm and cleanse ethnic minorities. Stalin's rule brought Russia from a Czarist farmland to a modern super power, and thanks to his regime Hitler, and fascism was crushed for good.

Do you think that the economic development communism brought to Russia justified the terror it brought? Do you think there would be a world with any democracy had Stalin not pushed the people of Russia so hard and got the place running in time to top the spread of Nazism?

you have to include all the people that died *in* communist Russia under Stalin's regime.

And that's millions of people.

I doubt it. There could have been much better ways to industrialize Russian society that did not include putting that man in charge of the country.

Well, to bad he managed to fight of Trotsky and assure his power.

I agree with you, the scientific and economic development of the Soviet Union was very quick, at some point their technology was advance even more than the USA, but after that they stopped advancing and developing.

I also agree with you and donpiet. By the 1980's, the USSR was on the decline.

I'm no communist, but I'd rather have the Soviet Union than the Russian empire during 1939...whoever the Czar was, he would either join Hitler's fascist army or just see the country he ruled be destroyed.

i think you all forget that in 1939, hitler and stalin made an alliance pact and together invaded poland.
but hitler broke the alliance and tried to conquer russia. that is the only reason why the soviet union even started to fight hitler

Stalin held not end of animosity towards Hitler and his economic ideals. If one didn't attack, the other would. Hitler attacked out of paranoia.

Hitler hated the communists and socialists, probably even more than the Jews.

No, I don't think that WWII justified Stalin's version of communism in Russia. Victory could have been accomplished in other ways. The senseless loss of life can't be justified.

That can't be justified either - but the U.S.A. is not the subject matter for this particular post.

Because all of you think capitalism is such an angel in spite of everything that it needs to do to even prosper.

i never said this is my opinon. i never defended any wrongdoing of any system. i am just opposed to general accusations that are being made against capitalism in all of its varieties.(yes capitalism is not the same in every country).

so if there is a wrongdoing of someone or something i will judge it for this act.

but i will rather disagree that capitalism killed the natives. it was more a colonisation thing.
but name it the way you want it was a brutal and terrible crime that happened in the early us time

Quote me on it or I never said it. If you made a post that asks "Did killing all of the native americans justify democracy/capitalism in the U.S.A." I'd say no. Don't jump to conclusions about how other people think or feel on subjects we're not even discussing.

You have not been debating with these people on every post you make I see...I waited almost a week before I said that, I think I have gotten to know my opponent, thank you very much!
