Forums → News and Feedback → AG3 Progress as of October 28, 2010
Just wanted to write a quick update on the happenings around here lately. I'm sure you've noticed my flurry of activity in the forums has dwindled a bit. That's indicative of how hard we're working to get AG3 out the door. And me playing admin-bully and having to ban some users who weren't behaving. Grr. Folks, we have chosen our mods for a reason: we trust them. Please listen to them and follow their guidance.
Our beta sign up page design contest was a huge success, and we picked a winning design. Right now we're anticipating that the sign-up page will go live on November 8th, and you can sign up to join the beta. We'll contact people in the order they signed up, in batches, to assist with the beta. No word on when that public beta will begin yet.
Right now, that sign-up page works, the Email notices work, and the page you land on when you finally get to enter the beta works. Larry and James have done some spectacular work on the front end while I slave away on the back end of things (database, systems, etc). We've had all user and game data migrating for several weeks now, so that's all ready to go. I *just* finished the game play page today, and James will be working hard to get that ready for your viewing pleasure over the next week or so.
We've been re-evaluating the whole armor points / reputation systems this week, and trying to decide what sorts of content will count towards reputation. It *may* change drastically, and I will clarify this more throughout the month of November. Please, no speculation just yet, we've had to go back to the drawing board on some of it based on Dan's feedback.
Let's see, what else...
We're looking at several new game ratings features which we'll talk about in November as well, things like rating a game based on art work, music, game play, etc.
Larry's still hard at work on the whole 'activity feed' system and how that works to display news bits all around the site and let you comment on things that happen. He's having a blast with it, and I'm sure everyone will be excited to see it in action.
In our "alpha" testing just here in the office alone, we may be running into some conflicting cookies between our regular site, our current administration site (which we use to administer some areas of the existing site, games, users, high scores, etc) and the new beta site. We're hoping to work out the kinks before the public beta starts so nobody has trouble getting into the beta without wiping their cookies.

crap thats a monday.... ill be checking before and after school then...
oh and also where will the sign up page be located?
Let me see.. That's a Tuesday for me. Just depends on what time during the day.
It feels like pre-Christmas in this thread. Lots of excitement and mystery.
Wooo, now I am even more excited...and am annoyed that I will probably be asleep when the beta page becomes active!!
Oh well, que sera sera!
At least you'll be on the computer, and probably won't be at school. D:
LOL I've passed that station loooong ago shayneii... I've been working for almost 14 years now!

:O THis sounds interesting.
Only something any good review on a game SHOULD have in it in my opinion...
oh and also where will the sign up page be located?
Yes, that's something we haven't been told yet!?! I have a good hunch on where it will be, but having an official statement would make things much easier for us...
ROFL! Fun to see that there's still some work to be done! My post got entered before two older posts... and there I was thinking my post mysteriously dissapeared?! 0_o
Now let's see if my second respond will mysteriously 'vanish' too! =P
November 8th will begin our CLOSED beta with our pre-selected user group, but everyone else can sign up for the OPEN beta.
We don't know what time the page will go live, but it'll be some time between 9am and 6pm Pacific (California) time, and will replace the currently page at http://beta.armorgames.com when it's ready.
We do not have a firm date set for when open beta will begin, nor how big the batches of users will be. We'll likely start out small, maybe a hundred or so users at a time. We may push out the activation code Emails to users on a daily basis, depending on how things are going. If we run into any major issues, we'll stop sending invites while we get things cleared up. Depending on how many beta requests we get, there may be people who don't get into beta. The ONLY criteria we're using that I'm aware of right now for accepting beta users is the order in which you sign up.
It's also VERY important to let everyone know that the beta site has elements from your user profile which are synchronized from the current AG2 site. As such, changing some of your profile information on AG3 will get overwritten from AG2 periodically. In fact, there may be times where we wipe all info on AG3 and start over. That's sorta the point of beta.
We're REALLY looking forward to hearing what you guys think of AG3!
A question, is it possible to play games on this version of armorgames while the beta page is active?
And you aren't going to pick the VERY first users that sign up for the beta? Because i am also in a different time zone so...
Owh, sorry, i was busy writing this before cormyn's post came up! sorry...
GIGAgamer, we should have all games available to play on the beta.
So is November 8th closed beta or open beta?
I'm pretty sure Cormyn meant that the beta is open to people who sign up November 8th and the public later. Whether the people who try the first beta are hand-picked or not, I'm not sure, but from what I heard it sounds like everyone will be using the beta instead of AG2 by the time public trials are put into place.

Would we get that back, or is it just like cookies or something?
Joe96, in a nutshell: if you see a setting on AG3 that doesn't exist on AG2, it probably won't get overwritten. However, if you see something about your profile that has data from AG2 already (password, biography, Email address, avatar choice, birthdate, etc), then THOSE fields may get overwritten by AG2 data at any time without any warning, if you change that data on AG3.
So, I have a question about Armatars transferring over.
My current Armatar (which you can see) is no longer available for selection, but I still have it on my profile. Would I still be allowed to use it on AG3?
