Heres my favorites (not in order) 1.Jimi Hendrix 2.Eddie Van Halen 3.Alexi Laiho 4.Kirk Hammet 5.Jimmy Page 6.John Petrucci 7.Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman
Dragonforce is very overated. Yes, some of their music sounds great, but other times... not so much. As for me, I personally enjoy Joe Perry's stuff, it is just my style of music. Also, Jimi Hendrix is probably one of the best, even though (like others said) you cannot group all guitarists into one single group.
^ Haha you are definately right. The guitarists from Dragonforce suck live. Anyway, Slash is one of the best guitarists around even today with Velvet Revolver. I'll look up the names later, but listen to Protest the Hero. The riffs and solos are absolutely insane!
Oh yeah, I forgot about Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme. (More than Words is overrated btw lol)
@ XCoheedX: I can't seem to get into Coheed and Cambria just because of Claudio Sanchez (Even though he sounds a lot like Geddy Lee, whom I admire XD). I was wondering if you could recommend any songs that would help me look past his voice. Help is much appreciated.
Well since this is a guitarist debate, I would like to say the solo to Welcome Home by Coheed and Cambria is totally insane! Both Claudio Sanchez and Travis Stever play the solo while alternating parts. They are both awesome guitarists, so I would check out, Welcome Home, The Suffering, No World for Tomorrow and Ten Speed. All have great guitar parts.
Haha, I have pretty much mastered the whole song with the Pinch Harmonics! Haha, but seriously, guitarists that can use pinch harmonics in an insanely fast solo has to be good. Alot of riffs by Protest the Hero have some pinch harmonis. Man they are such beasts!
