So a few months back I made the judicial decree that Skyrim and Skyward Sword shared 2011's crown of highest quality in a gaming experience. Since then, I've been horsing around (tee-hee) and playing quite a bit of other video games. Returning to Skyrim recently has warmed my heart but also made quite a bit of errors about the game quite obvious.

To clarify:

the thread's focus is on flaws you find with the otherwise pretty-freaking-awesome epic RPG "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim". It's been heralded as the best console game this generation, but since then I think there's been a new player on the block, and the perfected diamond many claim Bethesda's latest game to be may actually be quite rough about the edges.

Most menial of all my qualms with Skyrim is the textures. The game looks amazing with its vibrant colors, differing environments, and massive landscapes. However the game's rocks and snow seem a bit more polygonal that those I've seen in recent memory. I know that graphics aren't a means of judging a game, but it is quite jaunting to see un-smoothed snow kinda jut into the ground without any form of overlying transitional texture or whatnot.

I would also like to complain about the story in that it's absolutely forgettable. I'd like to bring up my now-favorite game "Mass Effect 3" as a comparison. In Skyrim there are a multitude of tasks that, if written down, could probably have been written on all those in-game books you never read. The quests are fun and keep one well-entertained in the grand theater of the game, but few actually add to the over-arching Civil War or Dovakiin questlines.

Compare to Mass Effect 3, where every side-quest adds to the story, allowing the narrative to flow into every bit of gameplay. It builds this epic tale that pulls the player in and makes the various decisions all the harder to choose. There's nothing like learning someone you worked your butt off saving for three missions, then connecting to on a personal level, died in an explosion you could have prevented, via email. Skyrim's gameplay makes up for its forgettable story, but upon further inspection, it's just a pitiful attempt at compelling narrative.

I have more bits about this grand RPG but I'll save them for the obvious fanboys who will flock to the thread to tear down Your Friendly Neighborhood Satanist in the flames of hate.

Ah well.

I look for graphics more than gameplay..that's that. Your arguement is invalid..

your on the wrong site.
if you want graphics so badly then don't look for flash games.

And HahiHa, you should play Skyrim more and do less here on AG Forums. I know all this from game experience. I PLAY the game, all you do is just read wikia-s...

I do browse the UESP a lot, because they contain all in-game info one needs, based on in-game literature (thus true). But I also got 400+ hours of pure gameplay. Just saying...

Now, when I said that Skyrim is only good because of the technology, that's not 100% true... a Skyrim with Morrowind graphics would still give me many hours to play, but it would feel a bit hollow, and surely not as spectacular as with modern graphics.

Yes but sadly the graphics are outdated which gives no feeling that you are there
dunno, morrowind sucked me more into the game then skyrim did.
skyrim is only some basic storys. not going very deep at all.

maybe because the world was not level based but just as it was.
when you started you couldn't survive everywhere on the map like in skyrim.
i think skyrim is prety dull compared to morrowind.

I and many other gamers look for graphics more than gameplay itself.

so you are 1 of those guys that keeps buying the same game year after year only because it looks a little better.

i think, if you only look for graphics then you should not be posting about games at all. except to tell if it looks prety yes or no.
games are so much more then just the looks of it. why do you play games anyway if you don't play them for the game? why don't you just look at prety movies?

I love Skyrim and hope to get in soon, but I do question some parts of it. Why does a longbow do less damage then a hunting bow? And why is the hunting bow a recurve bow, which isn't used for hunting?
But other then small criticisms, I love the game. Plus, it's been rated Number 1 by so many people and gaming organizations. Sure, its cities may not be as impressive as Oblivion, and its plots may not be as deep as Morrowind, but it sure as hell is better then some more...modern...titles, mainly the first-person shooters.

that it sure is.
and it only underlines more what kind of masterpiece morrowind was/is.

Goodbye AG,

bye bye, here i got a community for you that likes prety stuff.

Goodbye AG, the community sucks...

Good riddance.

maybe because the world was not level based but just as it was.
when you started you couldn't survive everywhere on the map like in skyrim.

Now that's a good point. It's true that it adds to the game feeling when certain areas aren't accessible for every newcomer. Also, when Oblivion came out, I was very unhappy about the fact that artifacts would also level, which meant that you would be stuck with a low level artifact sometimes. In Morrowind, when you find an artifact, it's WOW from the beginning They luckily fixed that in Skyrim, which is a plus.

What do you guys think about the smithing skill? I personally like it to be able to smith my own gear; and not unhappy to not have to carry armorers hammers around all the time anymore. But gear that does not get used with time kinda takes the fun away.

I hate the smithing skill and I never used it. When I was lvl 5 I found an enchantment iron armor which I wore for at least 50 hours of gameplay. Whilst my friend wore dragon plate armor at lvl 10 because he kind of spent all his time on smithing and he had little challenge left.

Surprised that you have so low playtime for such an (let's say) expert like you...which is nothing compared to my playtime 690 hours on ONE CHARACTER! Beautiful.

@ChillzMaster

AG doesn't allow swear words on both texts AND pictures. Flagged. Btw, I'm not a pony like you are baby..

200 hours or so is enough to have done everything possible. no need to brag about hours played. morrowind on the other hand has over 400 hours of story/quests.

It matters not how much time you put into your game, but the effort you put in with the time. This isn't a contest to see how many hours people have logged.

Btw, I'm not a pony like you are baby..

Wat. I'm not a pony. I'm not your baby. I'm not a baby.

Now I know that you are nothing more than just an self-loving idiot..

Really? You felt a need to dig through my profile to try and find "dirt" on me? You took time out of your day to go outside the argument (a fallacy) to take a personal shot at me?

Haven't you left the "stupid" AG community?

Respect... though I'm surprised you still messed up background lore after so much playtime.
