You learn something new every day, whether or not you realize it right away. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Today I learned the difference between bowler hats, pork pie hats and fedoras. Before today, they were all just fedoras to me. It never occurred to me that all three of these different hat styles had different names.
I also learned that Roseanne is Jewish, and that gummy shot glasses exist.

Related to a discussion here in the tavern, I just found out that October 21 is the International Day of the Nacho. Now that's a special day that makes sense!
I learned that Kool-Aid has been the official state soft drink of Nebraska since 1998.

I also learned that people diagnosed with depression have smaller hippocampi than non-depressed people, maybe as a result of damage by excess glucocorticoids. This contributes to the impaired memory function that depressed patients experience. However, depressed patients have a greater memory sensitivity for negative events, meaning they will remember bad things better than non-depressed individuals. The degree of the sensitivity is correlated to the severity of the depression.
I learned that "Madainn" means "morning" and "Oidhche" means "night" in Scottish Gaelic. Two new vocabulary words to add to my repertoire thanks to @UnleashedUponMankind.
I learned that when someone VERY close to you goes away for 2 weeks with absolutely no way to talk to her, you start to miss her within the same day she left
