What is your opinion on the best form of government?
Most of us live in a democratic society, but there are many who are of the mind of Monarchy, Communism, or otherwise..
What do you think?

American is a Republic. Pretty strong country, used to be the leader in a lot of things. But now that's its leaning more Socialistic and it's losing its edge.

Yay for ignorant statements!

The American "left" is still further right, on the political spectrum, than the Canadian center. The Democrats are considered a central-right party for the most part. The Liberal Party of Canada, is considered a central-left party. Take a moment to absorb that information.

Also, socialism is not some great evil that will bring the world into a form of Communist world domination. Socialism is a product of society saying:

"You know what? Everyone may be individuals, but some times the whole society needs to benefit."

If you think America is "socialist" you obviously haven't been to Canada. We have free healthcare (gasp! Communists!) and I'm going to assume if you can't make it across the border, then you sure as hell haven't been to Europe. Which, for the most part runs an even greater socialist economy.

This article is dated however, take a good look at how many of those systems are government run.

The best form of governent is clearly a dictatorship run by a benevolent omniscient super computer.

Wow, you must be bored. How did FNM? Did you successfully get weird looks?

Anyway, I agree with that in principle. The core traits at work here are omniscient and benevolence. I might specify that it should not be merely benevolent, but omnibenevolent. That is, its nature is solely and completely benevolent. That way it literally cannot do the wrong thing in any given situation.

"I am an infallible leader! Everything I do is correct all the time."

How do you know you are right?

"Because I was programmed to be!"

That's circular logic. You know because you know? It doesn't make sense.

"BZZZ-kkttt...hmm..."

That's how I feel on machines ruling the people, anyway. Kudos to those who know where this came from.

Or we could use the "a farmer and a businessman walk into a bar" argument.

Definitely a benevolent, omniscient AI. Humans are just too... flawed. But I'm against having only one person at the top. Move the president down to a congress member.

Define benevolent. I would honestly be afraid of those people programming such an AI. Humans are flawed because they're subjective, among others. Which is not always a bad thing, depending who you ask.

In my opinion, the perfect government would be a democratic society, with a president, and a congress. A congress that could actually pass bills into law instead of biting off each others head for the next opportunity to be President and get drunken with power. Some people will disagree, but I like the President we have now. If it were up to me, Id let him try his hand at a third term. But, thats just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions lol

A monarchy is a form of government in which the head of state is typically referred to as a king/queen and leadership is passed on by descendants.

People don't like it because they're opposed to being made to help the entire society. Whatever their reasons for that are differs depending on the person.

many monarchies these days have also a democratically choosen leader. and the king/queen only have a small place in the government. mostly of importens in the time between 2 choosen leaders.

Actually, it's because we have a group that THINKS they know how to help everyone in an efficient manner, when really it's quite inefficient, or should be left to the individual.

People who oppose socialism believe people shouldn't be forced to help others, but allowed to help others.

Which is why I included this statement: "Whatever their reasons for that are differs depending on the person."

Some are scared of it and don't know it actually is.
Others, like you, think it won't work or that there are better ways.
Reasons differ.

Personally, I fall under the opinion that form of government doesn't matter. As long as the leaders are good, the people prosper. Each system has its values and shortcomings, but as long as people get along and aren't asshats to each other, stuff works out.

Programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI programmed by a benevolent AI... you get the picture. Enough time for the AI chain to improve itself.

Pro and Con are opposites. What's the opposite of progress? (Yes, it's a quote from somewhere)
Personally, I like a democratic socialism, or a government that can actually support the poor and the well-being of everyone under the government's control.
