I can't be the only one who doesn't idolize them? If they even exist.
I would not be surprised if their true self has been long dead, and they are just another government infiltrated puppet. Just like Occupy Wall Street.
Sure there are probably some honest members, but I feel like the ring leaders are just controlled by the CIA or NSA. Now days anyways. Any thoughts?

Actually it might, compared to regular media, since it spreads even faster, and causes more outrage. But leaking it to the public, or the media is already a blockhead move either way.

could be me but i would just do it for the money. it doesn't matter how people get to know it or what the outcome of publishing such news will be.

Anon has activity outside of the US. For example, the flashmob by a bunch of black cloaked figures in Guy Fawkes masks of a Scientology booth posing as a "free massage" stall in a tiny country town somewhere inland Australia (which I happened to be in at the time) was an ostensibly Anon related affair (on authority from a primary source). I'm willing to assert that this was not at the instigation of some higher government authority.

Yet he did the wrong thing of posting the photos on social media outlets. Why not go straight to the authorities?

Steubenville (which is covered in another thread in this section) was the case of a community-wide coverup, the illustration of when a small community identity becomes more important than justice or jurisprudence. The authorities did not act in a just matter until public outrage, through illegal action, was stoked. The case resulted in two arrests and the subsequent mourning on nationwide media of two young talented athletes and how their lives had been ruined by being arrested, so you can make of that what you will.

There are other cases in which elements of Anon have gone on a crusade. In at least one documented case they fingered the wrong guy and actually did wreck his life, and another where they targeted the wrong person in the chain of process and prevented a victim from actually seeing justice.

Hence proving the dangers of vigilante justice...

That's the thing about Anonymous--which members?

Sometimes, not very often, some members operate on matters which made me want to pull my hair out. That branched off website of 4chan, which was mostly based upon underaged pornography, is the oldest instance. The middle section consists of members who tried operating something, but failed. But other times, more often than not, the better members take notice of and take action on matters that were truly good and truly successful. I take Steubenville, GodHatesMinnesota, and the 80 year old WW2 Veteran's birthday to be those cases.

That's why I break it into the "old" and "new" category.

They both still operate today..but the "old" have just been around longer. They usually do such things as what Freak listed.

They also used to be associated by the blank green mask. Oh how I miss that mask =/

They're real you...good people. Ask the Israeli and American government sites.

Good choice of words

And I think this points something out..the poor word choice in the Title. Anonymous is real..there is no doubting this. Anyone who has spent an adequate amount of time on the interwebs knows this. The argument really is between those that doubt the extent to which Anonymous can reach, and the rest of us.

Immensely stupid moves, since these acts had clauses that were beneficial overall. Anonymous was basically supporting theft.

I don't think that's a bad move, but one that is necessary; just that the bills needed tweaking.

Anon has activity outside of the US. For example, the flashmob by a bunch of black cloaked figures in Guy Fawkes

kids hiding behind the name anonymous because they are unable to hack they do something they can manage and thats a flashmob. it hardly is what anonymous is supposed to do.

They also claim to attack Israel every mounth.

maybe if they did, we finally can get a step forward in that region.

The take down/stopping of PIPA, SOPA, and CISPA

pipa and sopa have also been stopped because other countries didn't like the usa to censure the i-net. fine if you wanna censure it but do it like china. dont bother the world whit it. anonymous role here was just being a attention seeker. you think a government really gives in to something like anonymous? thats pretty naive...
(dunno what cispa is)

That's why I break it into the "old" and "new" category.

the old? and how many of the old are there? i guess there might be just a hand full of elite hackers that call themself anonymous. all the rest are i guess in your "new" group. just some kids that shout stuff but are unable to actually do something.
to think about it. all these kids are a perfect cover for the hand full of actual hackers.

Anonymous is real..there is no doubting this.

anonymous might still exist. be it isn't what it used to be. give it a few year and the hype go's over and we can say, anonymous was real.

I don't think that's a bad move,

it is. who are they to make laws for the world?
