"If you don't believe in an afterlife, why even bother living? What's the point?"

No Eternity After

My life is so empty
So meaningless
Without a divine entity
to guide my soul along the way

What purpose is there
To do good?
To love?
To live?
If it will all be gone tomorrow...

...forever

Why not end it all?
Why live for today
knowing it wont last?
Why not go out with a bang
take everyone out with me?
After all, it all ends the same
no matter what I do

But...

The promise of eternity
Forever to live
Forever to love
Must I only seek
that which will never end?

Why is it so hard to imagine...
That one who would love forever
would love, if only for a single day?
That one who would always do good
would do good, if only for one lifetime?
That one who would live forever
would live, if only for a brief moment?

I would very much enjoy
an eternity of happiness
But wishful thinking bares
no whimsical solution
My life is short

I will die

But I will live

I will not waste this precious time of mine
seeking eternity
Knowing my time is finite
is no reason to throw my life away

If I sought eternal life
Only to give up once realizing
my time will inevitably end
Then what purpose was there in seeking
everlasting life to begin with,
if I couldn't even hold it dear
for the few decades that I am...

alive

It reminds me of "Imagine", but refocused to a personal scope and drawn out a bit.

I fixed the poem up some. It should be a little more clearer now.

Link to the edited poem on my DA.

Interesting thread Nemo. Very interesting. I like how you posted it here.

Well, personally I believe in an afterlife but I feel like playing devil's advocate.

If you don't believe in an afterlife you still want to make your mark on society. You want to influence people different ways and feel important.

There is a life after death... but there are two, truthfully.

One is in Heaven, a place of eternal reward. Philippians 3:20.
One is in Hell, a place of eternal punishment. Revelation 20:15.
You would go to Hell... Romans 6:23
But because of Jesus Christ... Romans 5:8
You can live forever in Heaven with Him! John 3:16.

Those are all Bible verses. I suggest looking them up!

kylefitch1, if you wish to discuss the idea of a potential afterlife, WEPR is a bit up in the list of sections.

Nemo, sadly I don't have much to say =[ Modernistic style isn't much my fancy

WEPR? I have seen many things pointing AWAY from WEPR, far away.

I don't wish to discuss in length, I am not a theological debate expert, but I am merely trying to help people come to God.

And it fit with the category!!!

Nemo is a poet? I didn't even know it!

It's better to do that away from discussion of what is regarded as Art. It is better to discuss this in a thread where it can be discussed, not as a topic incongruous from this one. The WEPR forum is the best place to do that. No, it does not fit with this category :P

Oh, well in that case I may as well plug my religion:

All ye unfaithful. Come hither, for thou'rt the Chosen of Skorgg. An eternity doth beckon to ye indeed, and, nay, it is no Heaven nor any Hell, for these are but illusions summoned by false prophets, such as the one ye may spy above...if thou dost not have thy computer inverted about the monitor. In which latter case, look ye below.

Thank you for adding an inconsiderate and completely unnecessary post to this thread!

Now that my sarcastic side is happy, I applaud you and your poem, sir.

The only other thing is that it's impossible to "know there is no afterlife" unless you died and then came back to life with the knowledge. In which case, you'd be living an afterlife in this Earth, which would mean that there is indeed an afterlife.

What makes mine the inconsiderate one? I'm not joking, you know.

Alright. Good luck trying to make your "religion" be seen as more than a joke in AG.

And good luck trying to appease Skorgg, as well.

Send him my best regards, when you meet him in the afterlife.

No Everlasting...the poem made me sad and if that was your aim or mood the gratz for passing it along. Can you write one about your experience eating your favorite dish without stating what it is and see if your can portray that feeling/experience to someone else? I challenge you to make a series of poems strictly conveying what is sensed.
