The Beginning
You grew up in the small village of Chiakor, a remote village with rich traditions, buried deep in the wilds.
Every year for as long as you can remember, your village has chosen a champion to send to the cursed Demon Realm.

Legend has it that in years Chiakor has failed to produce a champion, chaos has reigned over the countryside. Children disappear, crops wilt, and disease spreads like wildfire. This year, you have been selected to be the champion.

Character Creation
What is your name, Champion?
Male or Female?
If your are male, are you lean, average, or thick?
If female, are you slender, average, or curvy?
What is your skin color; light, olive, dark, or ebony?
What color is your hair, and how long?

Stats for the game include:
Strength - Increases your damage and enables the Strong Back perks if high enough.
Toughness - Increases your health points and enables the Tank and Regeneration perks if high enough.
Speed - Increases you chances to evade attacks, certain encounters and to run from a fight. Also enables the Evasion and Runner perks if high enough.
Intelligence - Increase the chance to withstand certain encounters. Spells are also easier to learn and cast.
Corruption - Shows how corrupt you've become since entering the Demon Realm. If high enough, you won't be known as the nice guy anymore. Nice thoughts and actions will be harder to perform if corruption becomes too high. Anger rises a lot faster when more corrupt.
Fatigue - Determines whether or not skills and spells can be used. Waiting, resting, and sleeping reduce fatigue.
Hit points - Your life. If it reaches 0, your enemy will find a way to corrupt your mind or body in some way, adding to your corruption.

Every person is born with a gift. What's yours?
Strength - Are you stronger than normal? +5 to strength
Toughness - Are you unusually tough? +5 to toughness
Speed - Are you very quick? +5 to speed
Smarts - Are you a quick learner? +5 to intelligence
Endurance - Are you energetic? Recover from fatigue 50% faster

Before you became a champion, you had other plans for your life. What were you doing before?
Alchemy - You spent some time as an alchemist's assistant, and alchemical items always seem to be more reactive in your hands. You are much more successful at making concoctions than the normal person, and can make others much more potent.
Fighting - You spent much of your time fighting other children, and you had plans to find work as a guard when you grew up. You do 10% more damage with physical attacks.
Healing - You often spent your free time with the village healer, learning how to tend to wounds. Healing items and effects are 20% more effective.
Religion - You spent a lot of time at the village temple, and learned how to meditate. Meditating will reduce corruption.
Schooling - You spent much of your time in school, and even begged the richest man in town, Mr. Savin, to let you read some of his books. You are much better at focusing, and spellcasting uses 20% less fatigue.
Slacking - You spent a lot of time slacking, avoiding work, and otherwise making a nuisance of yourself. Your efforts at slacking have made you quite adept at resting, and fatigue decreases 20% faster.
Smithing - You managed to get an apprenticeship with the local blacksmith. Because of your time spent at the blacksmith's side, you've learned how to fit armor for maximum protection. Increases armor effectiveness by roughly 10%.

Feel free to ask questions, and have fun if you decide to try! Also, this game is story driven, and every person will have a similar story line, so if you don't want anything spoiled, don't look at others posts. This could also be good for people not playing and reading what happens to see what differences the players actions are and other things.

She doesn't give you an answer. Instead, she glares at you, then begins to back away slowly. After she reaches ten feet away, she finally turns her back to you and walks away, then eventually, out of sight.

The goblins pouch hangs right below your armpit, making it seem more like a purse than an actual pouch.

I give her the fifty gems for another lesson, and ask to be taught a potion that sells for a good deal of gems.


She happily obliges as you pour the gems onto a table of hers outside of her lab. She then leads you inside for you to see her set-up. There are many vials individually placed into fixed positions on a contraption with a giant pot on the right that may hold some sort of fixture, and tubes leading from it to every single vial.

"Like it? I don't know what to call it yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm the first person who invented it!" she exclaims happily. "Now then, onto business. I'm afraid that I don't have another potion in these basic lessons that can sell for such an amount of money that Equine Delight can. It's funny though, that such an easy potion to make can sell for so much. The ingredients are so easy to find, but the Centaurs and Minotaurs have better things to do I suppose." She then looks at you and asks you a question. "Since I don't have any more than could sell for as much as Equine Delight, what else did you have in mind? I've got a basic mixture that could help make you more energetic... the rest of the basic ones kind of suck, to be honest."

I also tell her about the incident that happened when I first arrived in Mareth with the imp, and ask her if she knows who the master is and how worried I should be.


Intending to answer her question shortly to think about what it is you want, you change the subject temporarily.

"Zetaz?" she asks, confused. "Never heard of him." After thinking for a few seconds, she then giggles. "Imps are just tough talkers, and that's really all they are. Heck, even I could probably take one of those suckers down!" she laughs. "Did you know his name? I know a few of those stupid imps who do a lot of talking but do nothing to back it all up. I could probably figure out who it was." she says as she pulls out a flask and a pot that seems to be heavy to her. She places them on the table, waiting for your answers politely.

I teleport back to my camp. Once there, I start to train with my makeshift spear so that I can hopefully learn how to handle it better. After I get tired of training with the spear, I do push-ups and sit-ups to try and gain some strength. I do this until it's night, taking breaks every so often.

You're extensive hard work led to great results. The practice with your spear made you a little faster, while the strength training helped with your muscle tone, strength and toughness.

After being completely fatigued, you are more than happy to throw yourself onto your bed, and rest. Tomorrow, you'll surely be sore.

Surely enough, as morning awakens you, you stretch and feel sore already. It actually feels good, until you stretch just a little too far.

I figure that at 10%, hunger begins to add penalties, and for thirst, 30% starts adding penalties instead of both starting to add them at 10%.

Knowing that I'll need to find food and water, I explore in a random direction for awhile.


Your wanderings take you far and wide across the barren wasteland that surrounds the portal, until the smell of humidity and fresh water alerts you to the nearby lake. With a few quick strides you find a lake so massive the distant shore cannot be seen. Grass and a few sparse trees grow all around it.

Your legs ache after the exploration.

I take a hour to rest at the lake. I have a water source, but I don't have means of boiling it to make sure it's safe. While I rest, I scan the forest for a willow tree, knowing that they grow near water. If I find one, I head over to it and use its thin paper-like bark strings to start forming a water-proof basket. This I can do sitting down, so I won't use that much energy.

To your luck, you seem to have found the only willow tree in sight. Instead of looking like a normal one however, the bark is red, just like everything else.

After a few long hours of undisturbed work, you do manage to create a basket. You dump it into the lake to see if its able to withstand the water, and sure enough, it holds out. However, some small droplets of water leak out every few seconds, but after a little patch-up work, you fix the problem.

I ask him about the imp that I met when I first came here.


"Zetaz, you say?" He scratches his beard while he thinks. "I can't recall an imp named Zetaz. I may have had a Champion come to me before, telling me the same story..." he says, looking up to the sky as he continues to pet his beard, "...but it didn't seem as if he was in too much trouble." He then turns his gaze back to you. "It is true, that imps are troublesome little creatures, but don't fret too much over them. They can easily be handled, but some are stronger than others. For the most part, you must take care in the chemicals they bear. Alchemy is their strongest weapon. Most of them, anyways. The stronger imps don't resort to chemicals to do the job."

I say sure to learning the energy potion.


After she tells you how to create the potion, you then hand her the ingredient sheet she's given you before, and she adds the new recipe.

Lumi's Ingredients:

Perudi olives ~ used to sweeten the potion. Also slightly alcoholic. On rare occasions, can turn skin color green, and on very rare occasions, can permanently reduce intelligence. Centaurs/minotaurs/horses are immune to the skin color change effect.

Inken weeds ~ used to dye clothes a darker color and/or adds a yummy taste to a potion.

Equine flowers ~ used to feed horses, and helps build muscle faster for them. Also could be consumed by creature/person to obtain horse-like features on some occasions.

Jetta Berries ~ used to sweeten and enhance the potency of the potion.

Sybil Carrots ~ used to add energy/vigor to the potion.

"Oh, and I may have forgotten to tell you last time, but you need to boil water and put it in the flask before you begin adding ingredients to make sure the potion is clean. If you throw the ingredients in without boiling the water to clean it, then the potion will corrupt whoever drinks it little by little, so be careful about that. Sometimes I make that mistake and throw them in a little too early." That explains why you felt rage for a few seconds after her potion test she performed the first time you met her.

I also ask if I could use her equipment again to make an equine delight to sell to centaurs later, but instead of 80% we have a set price I give you later, about 200, 250 gems to avoid confusion about how much I owe you.


"Well, you've already got two flasks ready to use. You don't need mine anymore." she says.

After listening to the second suggestion, she declines. "No, no. That's okay. I've learned from my last mistake, and I actually studied up on it a little to make sure I get my math right." she says, grabbing a few pieces of crumpled up paper and placing them flat on the table. "I still made a couple of mistakes, but I finally got it after filling up the last sheet with math." she says, pointing to the third sheet she's layed out. "Oh, and this time, I'll be a little more fair... since you're going out there and doing the actual selling, how about you get thirty percent, and I get seventy?

Sorry, I've had a ton of homework lately, haven't been able to log on as much.


Its all cool. And just in case you don't know already, on the next day in-game for you, I'll be adding hunger and thirst, but it won't work like any other RPG you've played. In this, the hunger and the thirst is based on the entirety of your life... its hard to explain. So I'll say it like this, at 100% for hunger, that means you haven't eaten for two weeks, and you'll begin to die and your muscles will slowly deteriorate. After muscle tone or strength reduces as low as possible, your health will drain faster because your body won't have anything to get its nutrients from.

Even having hunger at or above 10% is bad, because at 10% that means you haven't eaten for a day and a half. For thirst, it rises faster since you could only survive without water for 3-4 days until you begin to die from dehydration. So, at 30% thirst is when the penalties start from that.

This is where it gets real technical. I don't know if you already read any of this from previous pages, but this is how it works. For every single minute, hunger and thirst rises. For hunger, I multiply 0.005 by how ever many minutes have passed and that's whats added to hunger. For thirst, I multiply 0.02 by how ever many minutes have passed. It's all a pretty well balanced system... I think, at least. But anyways...

Feeling bold, I walk straight to the edge of the water and poke my stick in. If nothing happens, I stick my feet in the water.


After submerging the bottom part of the stick underwater for a short period of time, nothing happens other than the creation of ripples moving outward toward the seemingly endless lake. After taking the stick out and examining it, you find that nothing has happened to it.

After testing the lake water, you feel secure in dipping your feet in. Surprisingly, it feels much more relaxing than you thought it would have. It's thicker than the water back in Chiakor, however. It gives a strange feeling... but the relaxing feeling of the lake water reassures you that its okay.

He responds immediately, as if he's anticipated the question. "My dear child, I hope you have fast feet." the depressed alchemist answers. "Luckily, most creatures haven't become intelligent enough to use alchemy with projectiles. Anyone smart enough to do so would poison an arrow or even a dart and use it that way, but no. Violence and corruption have taken over the land, and intelligence is hard to come by these days."

You ask him what his point is.

"The point... is that they throw their flasks!" he emphasizes. After calming down, he collects his thoughts and speaks again in a calm, but dull tone. "However, it can still be dangerous if even a few drops make contact with the victim."

You are successful in finding bushes, but they contain no fruit. After widening your search, you accidentally find a quaint farmhouse on the far shores of the lake. Around the homestead are a range of gardens, filled with delicious fruits and vegetables. A figure in a pepper patch rises up to greet you, waving you over.

You do your best to conceal your surprise as you realize the farmer is a woman... with fur and canine-like features! She giggles happily and beckons you over, "Welcome stranger, it sure is pleasant to see a new face 'round here. My name's Whitney, and it's mighty fine I don't have to pitchfork you like most guests!" She fills you in about the lake and her farm, telling you how the demons can't seem to stay close for long, and monsters always seem weaker the few times they have approached her farm. Whitney flushes and rapidly changes subject, "I've got to get back to work, but you help yourself to the peppers, hun!"

She quickly leaves you alone as she begins watering her garden on the other side of the farm.

After examining the red peppers for a short time, you can't seem to find anything wrong with them.
