what do you use the coins for?

I doubt they're used for anything. Honestly, it looks more like one of those gambling simulators, except you always win. Also, I dislike it. Even when minimized, it gets in the way of playing games like GemCraft.

To reiterate.. the coinerator has both a mute button and a minimize button, and these options will stick with you as you go throughout the site. If you don't like it, minimize & mute it.

To boppins:
In case you didn't see my reply post, I am using Firefox 28. To reiterate, there is no mute button or minimize button and I posted a tinypic image in the post to show what the thing looks like. It makes sounds but can't be made to go away.

Thanks Erile. Are you using any adblockers, or noscript? Or a better question is, what addons do you have installed?

And have you tried another browser like Chrome?

To chime in: I use AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, and NoScript, in Firefox, and didn't have to change anything to be treated to this unwelcome thing.

Mostly, it took me some fiddling around & finally the good advice of a fellow forum member to to have it duly be blocked, instead

In earnest, I expect to have some other things to do the coming days than to check in on developments regarding this goofy thing, but if the site's answer to all this is gonna be it's tough luck & we all just have to suck it up, I suppose that will be the end of my forum participation. I trust that won't be anyone's loss, so no hard feelings, & all that.

But an ill-conceived goofy and super-intrusive gizmo if ever I saw one, yes sir, ma'am I do think so.

The only addons that are listed are Acrobat, Intel IPT, Office 2010, and Flash. Java is turned off. I do have Adblock Plus.

I haven't tried another browser, I don't have one at the ready on my machine.

All April Fool's "jokes" are pranks and all pranks reveal the prankster's schadenfreude. So whoever perpetrated this, get help, you are ill.
