I came up with this idea not to long ago but here is the basis of it. I will post a story probably every day and let people here debate if that person should be innocent or guilty. The story could be real or fake but I won't tell you. If you have a story that you want debated, comment my profile so I can find it easier. This thread is just to get people thinking about justice. All stories will be posted in this thread. If you need help finding it, just ask what page it is on. Here is the first story...
A man was walking on a woman's porch holding a knife. He has not entered the home. She notices him and looks out the window. He holds the knife out and laughs. The woman becomes scared and releases her pit bull outside. She calls the police and they arrive 10 minutes later. However, before they arrive, the dog attacks the man and he receives serious wounds. Now we are in the court room. The man says he thought he was at his friend's home. He says that his friend left the knife at his house and was returning it. The man meant no harm to the woman and demands that she pay his medical bills for the dog bites. So, we have a woman who believes it was self defense to let the dog go. She thought he would hurt her and trespassing so she thinks he should be put in jail. She also says she does not have to pay the medical bills. He believes the dog should be put down and the woman pay his medical bills. Who is right and who is wrong? You be the judge.
Remember, you are debating what you think should be done to the man and woman. There really is no right and wrong answer. It is how you feel justice should be carried out.
I think she is defending herself, becasue he most likely is lying with wat he said, its kinda cheesy, u would also have to ask the friend to see if he was really bringing it over this house, and normally u would know where the friends house is if he was his friend.
@ Drace On what charge? You can't send someone to jail for no reason. Well... they do but... @ Timegoesby People are always so quick to think taking away guns will solve the world's problems... Oh well, this is not the time, nor the place.
@ Timegoesby Take away guns and we will all be vulnerable to attacks, weapons are necessary for both war and peace.
I say the women is at fault for releasing her dog, and must pay medical bills, but the man was trespassing. So they should both face consequences.
This reminds me of a local situation where a police officer shot a rotweiler that ran up to him. He was responding to a call and when he entered the yard the dog playfully ran up to him, no barking or growls, no teeth-bared. He had an inherent fear of rotweilers as they have a violent reputation, when he saw one running up to him he acted rashly.
This is the same situation, if you stretch it a litte. The woman has an inherent fear of strange men with knives on her property. (I said stretch it) She did not know the intentions of the strange man. She released her dog in an intent to injure the man. But hwe was trespassing.
Wait...it's perfectly legal to shoot someone who trespasses on your property, sin't it? So in following the law, shouldnt the woman have no consequences?
URRRGGHHH...confused. If it is indeed legal to hurt someone trespassing (I'm pretty darn sure it is) Then the man is at fault. If not, then both are.
In the second story, I believe the man is an idiot and will recieve a Darwin Award eventually. But that is beside the point.
He should be fined at least, jail, the jury is still out for me on that. But there are multiple things you could charge him with. Disturbing the peace, and what he was charged with, disorderly conduct, and maybe reckless endangerment.
If it's your house, and your bomb, can you blow up your television that just broke 15 minutes before the superbowl is about to start?
