Everyone knows what school Uniforms are, but I wanted to know AG's side of the story.

Here are some of the for's and against's on School uniforms.

For-
*It is believed to cause less fighting
*People are more concentrated academically rather than with how they look.
*It would eliminate offensive clothing in school

Against-
*People don't get to be themselves
*People are miserable
*Clothes would cost more (depending on the type of uniform)

What does AG think?

I go to a school with uniforms. It's really a matter of how mature you are. If you're mature, you would suck it up and follow the rules. I don't WANT that uniforms, but I respect the rules.

Now there are always things you can do however, to be yourself. I have alot of nice shoes I wear to express myself in a limited way.

Now on the money arguement, you must remember, you only need to have about 4 or 5 shirts, maybe 3 pairs of shorts, and 3 pairs of pants. That is for the WHOLE year. When I used to go to public school, my wardrobe consisted of about 25 shirts, 5 pairs of shorts, 10 pairs of jeans, and then my 4 pairs of shoes. Alot of money went into that, so uniforms really don't cause too much trouble financially.

I think uniforms are also so people don't/can't carry guns or anything else to school because there has been lots of stories about that happening, and it being big massacres and stuff.

I don't like em, but if my school were to have them, I couldn't change it, I wouldn't like it, but what's there is there. However seeing is that I already wear two uniforms on a every other two day basis(Marching Band and NJROTC) there isn't much difference except that it is every day.

The one good thing I can see.....at least I don't have to pick what I'm going to wear today.

I really like to do my own thing, clothes wise, so having a uniform would really suck for me. For me thats one of the best ways to express my sense of style, besides hair, and if uniforms are in affect, I doubt you are allowed to dye your hair odd colors.

Uniforms also depend on the type of school. If its a well behaved school, you don't have any need. If its gang ridden, it might help.

As far as rules, if there was a uniform rule, I would follow it, but I wouldn't be very happy. I think in some situations, uniforms would draw more attention to unique clothes, or the lack thereof.

I really have no opinion on it.

I don't care.

Although my impression is that almost all the kids would be pissed to get uniforms

I think there is no reason for them. I'm glad my school district has no code of dress, other than limited exposure.

I like the idea of STRICT uniforms. Everyone wears the same thing...like in private schools.

I went to a high school with a strict uniform code. The Australian private schools are based largely on the British schooling traditions, so you have to wear stuff like tie, collared shirt, blazer and long pants...or shorts and knee-high socks.

Being an active individual, I suffered horribly in the uniforms. I even wrote an essay for the school magazine ranting on about how I couldn't see the point of upholding this anachronism for the sake of tradition. But it was something we all lived with and made compromises around.

Just like rules, really. I would prefer to shoot for a compromise- not necessarily uniform, but certain clearly imposed limits. Unlike spam posts on AG, you wouldn't have to really root around too much to find infringements. One school I know of had that- the option to wear the school uniform and dress code guidelines for casual wear, which apparently works quite well.

I used to go to a private Catholic school but then we moved. Happiest and saddest day of my life. Left that boring place but left all my cool friends. I wish the uniforms have more color then dark blue. No true black except from something confidential by the Ninjas. That is why schools made those free dress days.

Right now, there's no limit, as I'm going to High School now, and it's off the military base I live on. On the base, we could not wear certain colours to prevent gang activity, which has actually worked till this point, but now we have wannabe gangs because IQ is rapidly decreasing for some reason, glad we're leaving &gt

I don't think a High School, or most Colleges, should have uniforms, Elementary, there is no reall need, but then again...
Middle School though, Junior High, should have uniforms, this is when, at least around here, as I said, lately, the whole gang stuff starts because it's what is 'cool'. While it won't completely stop it, if they can't wear their sad little colours then there would probably be a decrease in 'gang fights' there. This shouldn't be a whole manditory thing avross the nation or anywhere because it really does depend on the area, but the way things can get sometimes, it would help a lot.

Same back in my homeland, but it doesn't have to be tight clothes! Gah, it was too hot in there...

The white polo shirt and black pants is good enough, no need for jackets, ties...

I see. So your in high school with Military Base rules? I don't want strict uniforms at my middle school. We are already limited. I don't want to lose Green for uniform colors.
