Agent_86 have you ever wondered why those people were on the streets? It's because some of them couldn't handle taking care of money, and others couldn't hold up jobs.If they did the same experiment with a regular middle class family, who are responsible with their money, then it would be completely different. Also how would letting the rich get richer help our economy in any way?If you can give me a logical answer to that, then I might not right this off as a statement of pure ignorance. If I could vote I would vote for Barack Obama.Thats as clear as it can get.

That's exactly my point!!! If you take money from the rich and give it to "those in need", it's like throwing it down a sinkhole. They'll just spend all the money and ask for more. And when you give them more, they'll spend that, and there you have it! A welfare state!
Well, the entire "wealth redistribution" idea is taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor. Also, have you ever thought about how much you depend on the rich? They run the big businesses and withouth many of these businesses, the entire economy would suffer. If the government took away all the apartment buildings and condos from Donald Trump, thousands of people would go homeless. If Wal-Mart were to close down, hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of people would be out of a job.
The rich that stay rich are that way because they manage their money wisely.
The rich stay rich because they have so much money that they can easily live off of the interest they gain from it. If you gave everyone enough money that they could live off of the interest and still be gaining on the principle I'm sure both lotto winners and you're homeless story would turn out different.

Maybe, but in an economy based largely on consumption when that bottom 50% doesn't have the money to spend you're screwed either way. May as well give them the money so that they can live and the economy won't flounder then let them die along with economic growth.

Well, if you won $100million in the lottery, even at 1% interest, $1million/year would be a mighty fine salary....

You just described a socialist welfare state!!! Historically, this doesn't work!!! (example: USSR)
Just a reminder... this is not an Obama thread about whether or not he should be president. It is just talking about speech misquotes. So if you have something other than that to discuss, please bring it to one of the more relevant threads. Thanks.
If politicians were so stupid how did they get into office? anyway both candidates make mistakes and aren't quite so clear on some matters that they should be.
also, it's not what you know but who you know, and as I've made my way into the wider world, travelled, got different jobs, etc (I'm 24) I've seen first hand that often it truly isn't waht you know but who you know.
Ya, I'm noticing that more and more. Degrees and education help, but depending on who you know is how you will get far. It's all about connections. Thats why socials skills are just as important as education.
Anyways back to topic. Everyone makes mistakes in speaking, it's normal. I hate this part of the race for presidency the most. Because both candidates re using the most vague BS possible to get as many followers as possible, and it often gets really confusing. And what usually happens is they say things that seem to contradict what they said earlier.
"I think it was in the Rose Garden where I issued this brilliant statement: If I had a magic wand -- but the president doesn't have a magic wand. You just can't say, 'low gas.'" --George W. Bush, Washington D.C., July 15, 2008
McCain shows his true family values.
"I was looking at the Sturgis schedule, and noticed that you had a beauty pageant, so I encouraged Cindy to compete. I told her [that] with a little luck, she could be the only woman to serve as both the First Lady and Miss Buffalo Chip." --on the Miss Buffalo Chip Pageant, which features topless (and occasionally bottomless) contestants, Sturgis, South Dakota, Aug. 4, 2008 (Watch video clip)
"I'm running for president of the United States, because I want to help with family values. And I think that family values are important, when we have two parent -- families that are of parents that are the traditional family." --interview on "This Week," July 27, 2008
McCain also reveals that he's a time traveller who lives mostly in the past
"I was concerned about a couple of steps that the Russian government took in the last several days. One was reducing the energy supplies to Czechoslovakia." --referring to a country that no longer exists, Phoenix, Arizona, July 14, 2008

If you read that carefully, he said that he isn't a wizard and he can't just wish the problems of the country away.

You mean Republicans can't crack jokes?

Well, he's 72, and his memory isn't perfect. Let up on the guy...
