About Armor Games

Daniel McNeely
is the founder of Armor Games. Starting as Games of Gondor, it grew and with the help of beta testers, became the Armor Games we all know and love. This new site went live on January 8th 2008. Here you can play games, leave reviews, talk with people in the forums, make new friends, and much more.

General Site Rules
Forum and Commenting Rules
Game Comment Rules:
In addition to the above mentioned rules, game comments should have something important to say, and be at least a full sentence long. "Good game" or "this game ***" is considered spam, and will be deleted. Try to give the creator of the game some sort of critique that would be helpful in a sequel.

What to Do if You See Spam and What Exactly is Spam Guide
The original spam thread by Kingryan can be found here.

1. Spam Topics

If you find a topic in the Forums that is either:

A) A Topic created just for people to spam in
B) A topic that has turned into spam.

Please don't tell the person that the topic is spam. This just makes things worse and you end up with 10+ people spamming by telling the Original poster that it is spam.

If you are the first person to see this thread, then you can tell them that it is spam, and then flag the original comment.

However, if someone has already posted a comment like this, just flag the original comment and leave it at that. As I said before, don't tell them that the topic is spam because then you will just be spamming yourself.

Remember...Don't Post - Just Flag

Spam to Look For:
A) People continuously saying that the topic is spam.
B) A topic where the original poster has not explained properly what the topic is about.
C) If the topic is title something like Spam Here or Only Spammers Here (No Mods).
D) If the original message is SpamSpamSpam or something similar.

2. Spam in a Forum Topic
If you see that someone has spammed in a forum topic (such as The Guess the Picture Game or Destroy BOB) then just flag the comment. Don't tell them that it is spam, just flag it so that a mod can see it and delete it when they get the chance. That way no extra fuss is made.

Spam to Look For:
A) Comments like wtf?, idk or I don't know, ya mum, wow, kinda easy, etc...
B) Comments that don't have anything to do with the game such as I think it is a piece of cheese in Destroy BOB - You get the picture!

3. Spamming under Games
If you see someone who has spammed under a game by saying Good or 10/10 or bad, etc, then once again just flag the comment. Every comment that you flag is shown to the mods and then they can delete it or take further action when they are online.
Don't tell someone off on their page, as this can just make the situation worse.

Spam to Look For:
A) Things like Good or 10/10 or bad - Basically a comment that doesn't explain what a user likes or doesn't like about the game.
B) Copied Merit Comments - If you see these it may be best to alert a mod as well as flagging it.
C) Repeated comments - I once saw a comment repeated four times one after the other.
D) Comment that are reposted on different games. For example if someone wrote about how the game had good graphics and cool sounds (Approx 2-3 lines) and then they copied that and posted it on another game. This is a sneakier way of spamming that is harder to detect.

4. Spamming on Profiles
Once again, if you see people who have spammed on either their own or someone else's Profiles, then flag the comment and leave it at that. If it is a lot, then collect links for the pages where they have spammed and post them on their page with a detailed explanation.

Spam to Look For:
A) Comments such as hello, hi, you're cool, single letters such as A, B, C.
B) Comments that have been repeated on lots of different profiles.

5. What to do in a BIG Emergency
If you find something that is very bad spamming or very explicit then flag the comment and alert a mod immediately. This includes things like Pornography, excessive swearing and bad racist or sexist comments.

6. What Not To Do
-Don't tell the spammer that they are spamming.
-Don't just tell a mod that someone is spamming; Give links and an explanation.
-Don't get into an argument with the spammer.
-Don't spam yourself!

SHOPS
There is a Group on ArmorGames called SHOPS. This stands for the Spammer and Hacker Organisation Prevention Society. It has a form that you can fill out to report Spammers. The Mods visit this page often so it is reasonably helpful. [I Myself am a SHOPS Member from WAY back when you had to be a member to report people. This idea was taken out a while back!] You can use this if you want to.

The Golden Rule: Don't retaliate, just FLAG the comment.
By flagging comment you are helping the mods out a lot. It makes dealing with spam very easy for them.

I have been working on updating stickies a bit. I have some rough copies still in .doc format.

So, conclusively, we are now two doing one person's job.

Well, we need to collaborate. I started tackling the ones I started long ago. Cenere, looks like you and I are about to become close.

Ernie, are you trying to go for a record on "Worlds longest run-on sentence?"

You'd know if I was.

I have a gut feeling in my gut (redundancy) that says almost all of these suggestions may be added in version three.

I don't know about the signatures. My industrial-strength run-on sentence should help explain why.

They won't all be implemented, of course, because most of the suggestions here are either repeated or just downright ridiculous. When you come down to it, you have hardly any original suggestions at all on this thread.

You've been doing it since your text turned blue, and it took you until now to question it?

Well, anything that may result in the possibility of misuse by any user cannot be added to the site, so probably not signatures or uploaded images XD

These hardly original suggestions aren't even on this site, so I can understand why they are on the list anyway.

I've always suggested a built in high-score system reserved for the games that cater to it like the endless arcade games.

Frantic, Retroshoot, etc.

I hate high-score boards hosted by other websites because anyone has access to them, I want to see how I stack up against AG members

*crosses fingers* Although it probably won't happen.

I've only been suggesting it for like....3 years xD (I suggested it on original account tooo)

Well, there are games with AG highscores, such as Endless Migration, but having highscores being fitted in with other games is strictly under the discretion of the author, meaning it's not under the staff's authority to require highscores, but to just add it in the system upon request.

I JUST realized this after I posted and am in love. I am just pissed at the fact that i never clicked the submit button on some of these games because I assumed they were lame and like all past games. So my endless migration high-score ain't there...

I have a suggestion regarding game scores. I would like to be able to post my "best" scores beside the corresponding game. These are our favorite games that we list on our profiles. If I haven't finished playing the game all the way through it would be great if I could post the level completed and highest score for that level. This way, if the site goes down and I have to start over at least I'll know what my personal best was.

I think Newcomers Forum really need some improvement. Newcomers come and make threads like Hello or Hi there. Such threads remain there for months.

I think it might be helpful if there were some more direct way to contact Moderators about abuses, spammers, flamers, advertisers, etc. I think the flagging comments option is a good idea. But, flagging comments in itself has problems. Volume of comments/postings, misunderstanding of rules, personal vendetta, there are too many reasons why simply flagging comments would get complicated on a large scale without a large number of moderators policing the site full time. I suggest modifying the flagging system to include a brief description of the flag along with a department to direct it to (forums, game comments). Along with this, I think that it should be included that a person's reputation be affected by reporting. I believe that most people try to do the right thing, but, I don't think that EVERYBODY in the world does. Perhaps the threat of a Armor Point penalty for an unwarranted flagging would help prevent this?

I like your enthusiasm Epadamns! The idea at the bottom of your paragraph is drowned out by the idea at the top though. If the flagging system was modified to write a form out for the offense, there really wouldn't a problem as to why a person would flag on purpose right? I mean if the flag form wasn't descriptive enough, the admins wouldn't mess with the comment right?

I like the idea though. It makes our only power more useful. However, if the flagging system only works for the admins, it should also be included for mods. Yes I realize that directly reporting it to a mod is another way. However, 1) your comments can possibly be drowned by more requests and chatting. 2) These flagged comments can go out to all mods active, so your comment can be heard by all of them and you don't need to fret when the guy you reported it to isn't active when you do so.
