I heard this rumour going round that there is a slight chance the wrold could nd next wednesday thanks to some scientists experimenting with a large hadron collider.

It is a staggering device, occupying a train-sized tunnel 18 miles long, buried 300ft underground, studded with gigantic, cathedral-sized ring-shaped detectors where collisions between packets of âheavyâ subatomic particles, âhadronsâ, will take place in the hope that the innermost workings of matter and energy will be revealed.

The LHC is, arguably, the most impressive machine ever built by Mankind

I got this info from this website

[url=http://www.zimbio.com/CERN+Hadron+Collider/articles/110/Large+Hadron+Collider+World+End+Next+Wednesday]

I have heard that the chance of this happening is one in 50 million.

According to the article on the website the earth will end in one of two ways. The first is a biblical style ending.Massive earthquake, Tsunamis and tornadoes followed by the end itslef.

The fabric of the planet itself would start to disappear, trillions of tonnes of rock, water, air and life sucked into a whirlpool of unimaginable force.

The other scenario is an instant death.

In an instant - about one-twentieth of a second - the entire Earth would simply vanish from space.

Less than two seconds later, the Moon would follow suit. Eight minutes later, the Sun would be ripped apart, followed by the rest of the planets in the solar system and onwards, a wave of destruction caused by a rent in the fabric of space itself, spreading out from our world at the speed of light.

Even though it is a one in 50 million chance. It is still not a chance i am willing to take. If we(man) can destroy the universe no matter how tiny the chance then surely this is knowledge we are better off noyt knowing. What do you think?

Do natural forces have an end?

Who Knows? I Surely Don't.

Well for instance will the water cycle ever end? I dont think so. Not unless the world itself ends.

It has had some news coverage. I have seen it in some newspapers but as its such a small chance i would be surprised if it made it onto prime time news,

Also, why are these never said on the news? (On TV)

They probably aren't said on TV so that they don't cause a national or world scare...

First off, scientists need to stop looking for the day the world will end, because they will never find it and are only depressing themselves

I agree comepletely. Let's just say they do figure it out, and it's 100% true. Okay, then what? Will they be proud of themselves? I say live your life without worrying the world will come to an end. Theres a chance, but who cares. I also like to live everyday like it's my last. Not because I think the world will end, but makes you life fun. =D

Anyways, It is possible that the world could end on... Wednesday. But theres also a chance that your cat could rape you... They are both very unlikely.

Oh please dominated, they would put it on the media in the first two seconds. It just shows this is obviously FAKE!

They don't, people who make up rumors do.

Inappropriate and odd.

Why would this machine kill us? >_>

This machine wants to split particles on a quantum level. ie tiny tiny tiny tiny things. Theres tons of energy when these are collided with each other and if they explode then the scientists might be able to understand much more about energy itself and it could be a very big advancement. But if it implodes instead it would v=create a black hole which would destroy the world.

Well, then what is the point of doing this if they aren't 100% sure that we will all die. But then, why would I want to know when I die? If I am going to die tomorrow, don't tell me. Let nature take its course.

The machine's real. It's been referenced in several books that I have read, both fiction and non-fiction.

The machine is, but it is not going to end the world >_>
I haven't even seen the theory as to how it could happen.

Ehh no, black holes are super huge. Your telling me there if a few particles explode we will create a black hole such as that? Meh...

read the articles i just posted the links for. Learn. These people writing are much cleverer than you or I. Who are you to question them?

A guy that can use logic instead of blindly accepting it? Now, I'm being a skeptic, but that doesn't mean I will stick to my first impression and never look to the other side. Answer my questions and I'm sold >_>
