I heard this rumour going round that there is a slight chance the wrold could nd next wednesday thanks to some scientists experimenting with a large hadron collider.

It is a staggering device, occupying a train-sized tunnel 18 miles long, buried 300ft underground, studded with gigantic, cathedral-sized ring-shaped detectors where collisions between packets of âheavyâ subatomic particles, âhadronsâ, will take place in the hope that the innermost workings of matter and energy will be revealed.

The LHC is, arguably, the most impressive machine ever built by Mankind

I got this info from this website

[url=http://www.zimbio.com/CERN+Hadron+Collider/articles/110/Large+Hadron+Collider+World+End+Next+Wednesday]

I have heard that the chance of this happening is one in 50 million.

According to the article on the website the earth will end in one of two ways. The first is a biblical style ending.Massive earthquake, Tsunamis and tornadoes followed by the end itslef.

The fabric of the planet itself would start to disappear, trillions of tonnes of rock, water, air and life sucked into a whirlpool of unimaginable force.

The other scenario is an instant death.

In an instant - about one-twentieth of a second - the entire Earth would simply vanish from space.

Less than two seconds later, the Moon would follow suit. Eight minutes later, the Sun would be ripped apart, followed by the rest of the planets in the solar system and onwards, a wave of destruction caused by a rent in the fabric of space itself, spreading out from our world at the speed of light.

Even though it is a one in 50 million chance. It is still not a chance i am willing to take. If we(man) can destroy the universe no matter how tiny the chance then surely this is knowledge we are better off noyt knowing. What do you think?

I love these people who say the world isn't going to end for anotehr ten years, or in the future, or when blank happens, and they think that their reasons are so much better than anotehr persons, but their reasons are just as stupid.

If its sucked trough a black hole, wouldnt we still live.

Untill we go into ice age or something.

Fake. I bet that machine doesn't even exist.

It does, they put it on Tv about 2-3 years ago.

Wernt they recreating the big bang or sum such?

If the world was going to end, i think it would be in the future, not in the 2000's.

And then the people living in the 3000s will say the worlds going too end in the future. And then the people in the next generation in the future will say it will end in the future and it will go on and on and the world will never end. lol

It's not going to destroy the world...
There's just a few scientists who think that saying things will make them famous.

The machine would not even reach 10 miles it would melt before meeting that distance. The only thing that could happen is that atomic bombs the has been lost in year and buried in the deep ground may melt and explode but slightly that might happen.

Wow well the machine does exist and it probably is that size but a sub atomic particle accelerator fuses atoms to make another one just like hydrogen plus hydrogen equals helium and that is what the sun does but it also makes it possible to shoot protons and neutrons at the particle to make it into something else

omg if you bothered to read the whole thread you would see the links saying why the world was going to end on wednesday not just a random guess. look it up on google if you want. Its a vry very tiny cchance.

ITS NOT A LARGE HADRON COLLIDER! Its called a particle accelerator! Plus they said that the world would end in year 1000 for some massive plague, and a huge barbarian invasion they said that would come!
These are the more likely chances of THE END OF THE WORLD!
1- Drinkable water supplys end.
2- World War III
3- Giant meteor crashing in the earth
4- Massive simoultainus volcano eruption or earthquake

MAYBE in the DISTANT future, Chaos Theary says that robots will rebel( i dont know if its true but it more likely than this!)

PS:If this is true... #@*!?%&$£ I LIVE IN THE SAME COUNTRY(Italy) WERE GENEVRA IS!!!!!!

Geneva is in France Italy and Germany actually.

I never said it was the most likely cause of the end of the world but that there is a tiny chance. It is a large hadron collider which is just the name for a large particle accelerator. look it up.
