I just want to know what gamers think of this. Can people eventually evolve and may even acquire super powers in the future? Our current status as Homo sapiens is not the last stop of human evolution, is it?

Evolution is attained through natural selection/survival of the fittest. So, if for some reason lazer vision develops in a human being, and helps them survive, then sure.

Otherwise, this ain't Heroes.

no way humans are evolving with all these random powers, we could get stronger and smarter, but no lazer vision (lol)

No, but we will probably develop the powers of mental retardation, and handicaps. Because we are saving almost everyone and anyone with a disorder or disease that would naturally kill a person, we are letting defects proliferate through our species. So We aren't naturally selecting anything, and thus we are not evolving in any beneficial way, whether it by by means of immunities, or by means of physical skills or abilities.

Gotta agree with Flipski.
Though humans are potentially "evolving" towards a one coloured race (rather than being divided into the area specific subraces we are today), we are not gaining better abilities. Everyone is kept alive if possible, meaning that individuals with bad genes can breed too, thus destroying the 'survival of the fittest' in any society with a decent health care system.

the "survival of the fittest" sounds sorta Nazi-ish ... if you know what i mean...

anyways, in my view, humans could evolve more in the future. If you look at the past, humans have evolved rather rapidly, and i do not think they will stop...for example, they could get echolocation skills if the world is plunged into utter blackness for eternity...

so says some science that when (or if) we make machines in houses cars and robots smart enough we will have to "upgrade" our brains to machine intellect by using something else they create (i forgot wat it was) and therefore having a lot of intellect but no superpowers or evlolution... i did hear that we wont have our smallest toe in a few thousand years though...

Supers powers are scientifically impossible, so no.

@jpx111:
Why do you think that sounds nazi-like? I was talking about the natural selection, where, if you have a serious disability or disease you simply don't make it, but die before you spread the genes.
This is no longer the case for humans, as the important values in our society has changed from being the very simple survival skills.

hy do you think that sounds nazi-like?

Mmm, Nazi's believed the Aryan race was superior of the others, thus they wanted to eliminate the rest. Only mildly relevant.

well &quotowers" as you call it isnt the right term they are developing these implants that can help your body and give you more thinking power but not powers like in spider-man or something.

The only times we evolve due to natural selection are during natural disasters or pandemics, or mass extinctions, etc. On a regular basis, not much natural selection occurs. Back then we evelved much more because we didnt have medicines or much technology to keep us safe and warm. We would die from animal attacks, we would need to be stronger hunters, die from plagues, and be better parents. Nowadays everything is prettymuch provided for us and we do not need to put in much effort. The worse that can happen these days is if you are a slow typer you might lose your job, but you won't die, so no matter what there isn't much natural selection.

@Flip,

Mutations occur on a random basis. The environment does not control how "Fast" we mutate. So far, we really have not seen any advancements in the human species. If there to be one, such things that kill a majority, would make it easier for the evolved species to become the next majority group.

well we are not the last stop of man kind,i think eventually technology will get SO BAD that we might actually DE-EVOLUTIONIZE,by being lazy,not woking our own work and not learning anything!

but superpowers would happen if some human just randomly adapted to it which would NEVER happen.

This is not how evolution works >_> There are no non-physical factors.

It's funny that there is this idea of "de-evolving." Remember, evolution is not a forwardly linear progression of traits. We can't say that one species is "better" than the last. If we end up all becoming mentally handicapped, from an evolutionary standpoint is just change - not better or worse change.
