Hello and welcome!

This is a spin-off of the original GFX Art Battle, but with some updated rules and changes. Please make sure to read the rules before entering, since they have been modified. Good luck, we look forward to seeing some creative artistic entries!

Competition Rules
1. Must be hand drawn, either on paper or in a program. It can then be manipulated in an graphics program. But unoriginal artwork cannot be used as the main focus. Copyrighted images cannot be used. All pieces containing copyrighted images will be disqualified.
2. Submissions must follow the current theme that has been chosen by a moderator for that week. If you submit more than one piece, please clarify which one you would like to be judged.
3. If your image is larger than 600 pixels wide, please provide a link to the image instead of posting it in the forum. Otherwise, the image will be cut off.
4. Artists cannot win in subsequent weeks. You can still submit, but if you won the week before, you cannot get first place again the next week.
5. After the deadline, a moderator will pick the winner, and they will be awarded a 25 AP award.

Oh god, where do I begin...

This round has possibly got to be the most off-the-hook round in the Art Skills Competition history thus far. People appear to be pushing the transgressional boundaries so far that I had to consider no less than three entrants for the dreaded Dishonorable Mention (excluding Klaus; he got it last week. Though that 'edobear' and 'lolipop' and 'cherry' reference all in one...in the words of Carlie-according-to-Klaus: "oh god that's a ban".) As for the winner...well I'll get to that later.

Thus we come to a point where it is difficult for me to choose a winner because the poles of 'winning' and 'winning the DM' have almost become one and the same. Such is the nature of internet lulz.

At least there is one thing I can be unequivocal about. And that is The Champion's Exhibit

As the winner of last week's competition, Cenere's work, while not judged, is to be displayed first.

I will tell you now that brains are edible but I would really not recommend eating them! Interestingly Cenere has heralded the next topic...but of course we'll wait for the official announcement won't we >:3

Without further ado, I will tell you what wowed me and what had me saying ow from headdesking so hard.

Grand Prize: Gantic- The Essence of Apple and Peeled Orange

Let us all remember that this is an art competition, and while internet lulz is great, we must never forget the broader scope of art as a form of communication. Sometimes the boundaries of art is blurred and controversial, and people like myself revel in the resultant arguments, saying also that the changing definitions of what art is and isn't is one of the great barometers of human culture.

In this case, I saw this picture and immediately thought of that very front. How is this the essence of an apple and a peeled orange? I asked myself. In what way does a visual representation with straight pixellated lines relate to our perceptions? I was made aware that through abstraction emerged form, pieced by my own processes alone.

I therefore concluded that this piece could be said to stand near or even at the forefront of our considerations of perception, and therefore I give it the merit because of its significance.

Congratulations, Gantic, you have won this week's merit! You never seem to claim it though, but if you want it, just message me. If you want to enter the pool again for next week, that's okay too.

Second Place: Crimsonblade55- Sasquatch's sister "Yeti" never regrets anything. Except for the day she got into his bell pepper stash. He made sure of it.

I'm not sure I condone domestic violence, but I have to say this style of Crimson's is hugely effective. He has created a character with such a simple premise (a permanent WTF face) but every time I see it I'm in stitches. I have also yet to see a more effective use of fresco and bell-pepper brush.

Third Place: Zophia- Mo-o-o-o-m! Dinner's Biting Back!

Also the "Awwwww Kawaiiiii" picture of the week. Baby Hallow is sooooo cute! And deathly afraid of squirrels. Mm, yes, remember the World Tournament is just around the corner!

Right, okay. There are many notable things about the many fine *cough*sometimes inappropriate*cough* entries submitted this week. It was hard for me to go through them all, as there were in fact 16 of them! That's like, a record!

But nonetheless I am a ninja and I always deliver. So!

Some people like to, paradoxically, advocate the eating of healthy food and perhaps take a few pot shots at couch-potato consumerism while we're at it. Two rather fine examples include:

Pedspog also made an entry with a Mr. T reference that I found hilarious. And also so corny. So so so corny. Pedspog, you are maybe even more full of corn than I am.
