Some of you may remember the, "Great Debate," a few months back. I am deciding to resurrect its epicness, and create a whole new debating network. Here's it will all go.
Debates may be set up on this thread. You may call out a specific topic, and ask for anyone to challenge you, or you may call out a specific member to debate with.
These debates will be set up on profiles created by myself. The member who challenged a member, or the member who set up the topic, will start each debate off with their stance and back up. For backup used in the debate, a link is mandatory for your opponent.
Each member will post back in forth debating on your stance on the subject at hand. DragonMistress, Moegreche, I, or any other moderator that states they want to help judge will come by each debate profile to give update scores, and maybe a hint or two. The moderator judge will end the debate as he/she sees fit. The prize for a debate is a merit!
All rules for the site apply. No spamming, plagerising, foul language, (eventhough debates can get pretty intense) etc.
Here are a few I would do (these are resolutions, you either agree or disagree, they aren't questions):
-The death penalty is unjust. (I'll do either) -Creationism ought to be taught in school. (I disagree) -The United States government ought not grant marriage licenses. (Either) -Communism is the only just form of government. (Disagree, but if you really want I will affirm)
Question debates: What is justice?
I'm willing to debate on almost anything. PM me if you want to debate. Also, in debates, except for question ones like "what is justice?" absolutely no kritiks (a form of kritik used in competitive debate that is generally unfair to the round, and can often be irrelevant and pointless; i.e. Resolution: We ought to pressure rogue nations to work with international peacekeeping groups. Kritik: It is wrong to call them "rogue nations."
I have un-stickied this topic because I think most of the veterans on the site rarely check the bold, stickied items anymore. We can sticky it back once people realize the debates have started back. Shayneii, you'll have to issue a specific challenge to necromancer in order to start a debate. There are several topics there, so pick one and let everyone know.
Ok, I'll go first. I probably won't be able to make my opening arguent tonight as I have to leave for debate practice soon and do my homework after that.
To clarify: With the resolution "Communism is the only just form of government." I must prove that it is either unjust or that another just government exists, you would need to prove that communism is just and that no other government rivals it. If you want to change it to "Communism is a just form of government." which is perfectly Ok with me, I would need to prove that communism is unjust and you would need to prove it is. Another alternative might be "Communism is morally superior to capitalism." You may choose any of those or something different.
I can understand everyhting fine. Drace, and Necro are going to set up a debate on communism, ninjacube and I are going to debate on whether wind energy is efficient, etc.
I put up a few topics to debate on, and sorry Drace, I meant to say that I am against abortion. I didn't necessarily open up a debate, I am just posting what I would debate on, and I accept challengers.
