I want to try to bring together the guitar players of AG, because every one knows guitars are awesome.

Please type how long you've been playing, the type of guitar you play(electric, classical e.t.c.), the brand/brands of your guitar, and the model type (e.g. Gibson SG).

I'll go first

Amount of time I've played: 6 years

Type of guitar I play: Electric, Classical, Brazilian, Spanish, Flamanco, Jazz, and Acoustic

My guitars: Gibson Faded Explorer, Epiphone SG, Fender Stratocaster, Ibanez Acoustic Guitar, Strunal Classical Guitar, Yamaha Flamanco guitar, and a Yamaha Travel Guitar.

20? Quite a lot.
But I guess you do need a set. ;P
I'll look for a steel string one then.

Yes I would get a nylon but you can choose, you will want hard picks if you get a steel string but medium will do for a nylon, I have like 10 pics but I haven't ever broken one so 20 will be a good start for an acoustic.

Harder picks are still rather cheap, though, right?

They are the same price as medium, it should say hard or thick on the pic or on the pack.

It really depends on what kind of music you play. For hard rock and metal, I use thick pics because pinch harmonics are a bit easier to pull off, and they don't bend. I also have some pics that have little grip pads on them which is always nice

Yeah, but if you get a steel string you will need hard pics so they don't always break and they sound the best.

really, you should just go to a music store, and get a few of each type. that way you can figure out for yourself which ones you prefer. they only cost like 30 cents anyway.

I prefer hard picks for some reason, I don't know why, but I like them more. It really all depends on what you like. I think hard picks are probably better for solo pieces, and medium picks and thin picks are better for chords. I only play hard and extra hard picks. = )

strange, this topic went from guitars to picks. sort of cool how it did that. Since this thread is called Guitar Players Unite, there is nothing wrong about things that are only even remotely related to guitars, it was just noticing how the topic changed like that. = )

In my opinion, the harder picks are eaiser to play with when you have to do a series of chords in a song.

That's true thingthingfreak. Although, if your asking me, harder picks are better for everything! = P

I agree with BumplemuffinBaker, the hard ones are better for everything. The softer ones sometimes can bend a little, makeing it harder to strum. but of course that's just my opinion...
