I say heck no! That is not fair for gay people to wed. I have many gay friends who i think would love to get married. I think if two people love each other they should get married. So what if they are the same sex it shouldn't matter. And for people saying that is against god or w/e you think it is against, let me tell you god loves all his kids AND love is between two people man/woman man/man woman/woman, not the whole world. So it shouldn't be peoples decisions just the couples. So i ask you all to vote no on prop 8 and let everyone wed, help spread the word!
Sorry for the double post but I didn't realise that the - now asteriked - word that I typed was considered as curse word as it is not so considered here in sunny England.
i think strict christians need to start butting out of everyday lives... There ruining peoples lives (gays, people who abort, people who have sex before marriage, etc...) and they're affecting peoples dissicions. Its people like that that rlly make me want to leave the catholic community. Also how do you know that your god is the right god... There is soooo many different religions stating that some other God is the right one that im just fed up with thinking about the what ifs... I support gay marriage, and people who are gay kinda already have a hard enough life at times, with all those strict catholics yelling at them, and the majority of the population cracking gay jokes all the time. They should be able to spend their rest of their life with the ones they love. Hopefully enuf of america isn't to indoctrinated into the beleifs of the catholic church.
I am not that of America, but I think it's no one else' s business if someone should get married, even if it's to the same sex. I am a Christian and also in the Bible it says don't judge others because he will judge you the exact same way. It also says he loves everybody, gays and all, and if gay is a sin we all sin everyday, so it doesn't matter. And it is not in the 10 commandments so don't worry. And most religion "Facts" is a bunch of bull.

Well, you see, I wouldn't mind this so much if they actually were hating against all other religions...
For some reason, everybody turns a blind eye to Muslim crazies, or those guys in suits that come to my door every week, or any other group. It's just us. It's called discrimination, and that's why I'm mad at it...
As an atheist I hate all religious fundamentalism equally, I assure you. I do not begrudge anyone their faith -- faith in wonderful people can be a beautiful thing. What I begrudge is ANY religion thinking that they have any right, as a group, to dictate their morals to me or anyone else on religious grounds. SO whether the religious wingnut in question is flying a building into a plane, trying to tell me what to do with my own body, or dictating who I can or cannot love, I will fight them tooth and nail. Religious freedom, including my freedom from religious doctrine, is just one of the many reasons I joined the military.
People have negative comments about all religions, but the largest religious group i the United States is Christianity, so it is most relevant for people to comment about radical Christians.
I'm not that religious, but for a while I felt like we should give them the right, then I felt that we shouldn't because it is unnatural, and I don't want kids being raised in an unnatural way with two same sex parents. I feel like I shouldnt be the one to stop people from doing what they want, but when they affect children who dont have a choice yet, because they were born into a situation, its not right. Also we cant really draft the law to say that anyone can adopt except same sex couples because if you make it marriage its marriage, and you cant stop a single person from adopting. So I think right now the only solution is to not allow them to have "marriage" they have domestic partnerships, and can live happy lives with the same laws and agreements as straight couples. Also I think that we do not need to change the basis of our society and framework because of a few people with chemical imbalances (no offense). If they become a majority and vote for it, understandable....or if the vote passes, thats fine because then the majority wishes it, but the way the judges changed the law in san francisco wasnt right.

Of course you're going on the assumption that same sex parents are somehow "bad" or "unfit" or "bad influences." I never quite understood why people thought leaving kids to rot in the system when they could have a loving home with two great parents was fine. The whole turning kids gay issue is complete crap but even if it wasn't, wouldn't a gay person be different then a convict who was unloved and left to be abused in foster home after foster home? There are no legitimate studies out there that say same sex parents are any worse or any better then straight parents so why, with all the unwanted and unloved children out there, would we deny them to a stable loving home just because it has two woman living there?

Like Bipolar? Being gay isn't just some mental illness you take lithium for and it sudden clears up. Though our brain scans are different it's certainly not something like a chemical imbalance and it's certainly not just a few people.

Separate but equal doesn't work in America. We already tried it and it failed. It's not fun when you're told you don't a certain civil right but you can have the slightly crappier door prize.

It sounds like you're saying that only the majority have the right to participate in making laws. The majority is not always right. Anyone remember slavery? The majority thought it was fine, the people who used slave labor used the bible to back it up, it was changed suddenly by the government, and changing it was unpopular enough with certain people that it literally caused a war. Sounds kind of familiar.
The point of the entire judicial and legislative systems in America is to maintain the rights of the minorities, while respecting the will of the majority.
Proposition 8 would override the minority rights; thus, it is unconstitutional.
