I say heck no! That is not fair for gay people to wed. I have many gay friends who i think would love to get married. I think if two people love each other they should get married. So what if they are the same sex it shouldn't matter. And for people saying that is against god or w/e you think it is against, let me tell you god loves all his kids AND love is between two people man/woman man/man woman/woman, not the whole world. So it shouldn't be peoples decisions just the couples. So i ask you all to vote no on prop 8 and let everyone wed, help spread the word!
We have gay marriage here. Well, it's offically called a "civil partnership" and i think it's amazing. Tbh, i'm lesbian, and it givs us the right to a normal marred life with a partner when we're older. Why should gender matter?
You don't have to be gay to start a riot about gay rights. I don't think this would be a big issue if Civil Unions offered even close to the same amount of benefits that marriage does.
You're telling me they grant the same rights and benefits, when at hospitals, partners can't legally visit each other past designated visiting hours because they technically aren't family, that they are the same?
You're telling me that when you can't file for a joint tax return, you're getting the same benefits as a regular marriage?

Well let me try to explain this real quick. The thing about marriage is that it originated as a Religious ceremony and since the bible tells that things like homosexuality and sodomy are sins(stories of Sodom and Gamora is one of the largest examples of this in the christian bible)Let me put it this way.People who are Christians(including myself) who believe that homosexuality is a sin, could see the idea of them trying to embark on what is considered a religious ceremony could be quite a slap in the face.I really don't like how they link marriage and alot of laws together.I like this idea that they would create something for homosexual couples that is not referred to as marriage(mainly for the fact that marriage is a religious thing in its entirety)in your area, and b/c of this I am not too worried about that.I know alot of people may not like my opinion on this matter, but that's the way it is.I hope this at least helped a little in explaining why some people(not all Christians, and I'm not going to say that I speak for everyone, much less anyone)may not approve of the idea, but many others think differently and that's all their is to it.
I myself was born Catholic, yet I'm very Atheist, and frankly, I'm tired of all the Christians 'You're Ignorant' crap! I am the up-most un-ignorant person I know! Going around saying 'God hates you' and 'You're ignorant' is demeaning!
If God's saying of 'Everyone is created equal' is true, than what gives you the right to tell them they're not! You're religion pretty much says we're all made by incest (Adam and Eve). I don't appreciate you demeaning people who have the right to be happy!
On Topic: I vote no on Prop. 8, because I KNOW everyone should be equal and one person doesn't have the right to say no to that! NO ONE DOES! So bull to your religion and thinking that says other-wise. Be respectful.
Everyone is talking about "gay rights". What about "religious rights"? I don't think the government should care about marriage at all. Here's a solution: Just have a way for people to have joint-filer status. Then recognize the relationship between the 2 parties and there you're happy. But save the religious terminology for the church...

Marriage is filed through the government; it's a huge legal proceeding as well.
What about "religious rights"?
The churches don't have to wed someone if they don't want to. Proposition 8 was about the government acknowledging that marriage is between a man and a woman. Technically, a gay couple could still be married; the ceremony just would not be acknowledged by the government, and would have no legal standing.

Um, you just made a huge point for me...
Gay couples can do anything they want about their relationships, as long as you don't shove it in my face...

Then, earlier, why were you in such firm support of Proposition 8? If it doesn't affect you, why does it matter to you so much? You seemed to be a firm advocate of the proposal before.
Well, this does affect me... This is a counter-blow by "traditionalists" to stop the push of the extreme minority who are trying to effect the majority.
