I say heck no! That is not fair for gay people to wed. I have many gay friends who i think would love to get married. I think if two people love each other they should get married. So what if they are the same sex it shouldn't matter. And for people saying that is against god or w/e you think it is against, let me tell you god loves all his kids AND love is between two people man/woman man/man woman/woman, not the whole world. So it shouldn't be peoples decisions just the couples. So i ask you all to vote no on prop 8 and let everyone wed, help spread the word!
I do not understand Prop 8. Why should it be passed?
Marriage is a religious event. Its really a discrimination against the religions which say that marriage is between a male and a female. So I am for keeping the traditional sense of marriage.
As long as homosexuals have the same legal rights, I guess my vote would be Yes.
But they don't. Civil Unions do not provide many of the same benefits such as marriage. Partners cannot even visit each other in the hospital past visiting hours.
But why? Church and state are supposed to be separate. So why should the Christian definition of marriage be imposed upon law?
As I said, as long as they have the same legal rights. Marriage is held by the religious peeps and not the state. What is trying to be done is breaking the religious tradition of marriage through the state...
I would love to cleanse out religion, but it cannot be done through a proposition...quite forcefully..
But they don't. Civil Unions do not provide many of the same benefits such as marriage. Partners cannot even visit each other in the hospital past visiting hours.
Alrighty then...
Someone mind telling me just what the Prop 8 does? Im not grasping the whole idea of a 'marriage'.
Prop 8 is a proposition saying Gay ppl can NOT get married. So if u vote yes that means u don't want them to get married and if u vote no they can get married. Its a proposition here in California
As I said, as long as they have the same legal rights. Marriage is held by the religious peeps and not the state. What is trying to be done is breaking the religious tradition of marriage through the state...
No. What it will say is that marriage is only recognized by the state (in the California Constitution) as between a man and a woman. It is by LAW. Not religion. There are churches that are very open to marrying gay couples. This has nothing to do with that. This is about the law.
Ah I must disagree my friend I say no for gay marriage. Gay marriage is against the bible and yes god does love all his children and yet you do not have to approve of what they are doing, lets say your mom is doing drugs you don't approve of her doing drugs but you still love your mom. And also god says that he is the way the light and the life meaning hes the only way to god if you don't obey Jesus you wont get to god and ultimately go to hell. Jesus said no one gets to the father except through me. MY VIEW DON'T ALL YOU "free spirited" hippies start badgering me about being ignorant because if you wont believe in god aren't you being ignorant to my beliefs... think about that. AGREE AGREE AGREE I completly think u are right MR.SNIZZ this is basically what i think. vote no on gay marriage
I have to say, I am very disappointed that Proposition 8 passed. I am very proud in America for taking a step in the right direction by electing Obama, but this is the first time I have felt embarrassed to be a Californian.
As a non-resident of both California and the US, I find it an interesting situation as the vote was a close one. Symbolically however, a near miss is as good as a mile, and as mixed as the reactions are, so too is the picture this paints in light of the recent election results.
Moreover it is generally rare to see people take an unequivocal cultural step backwards, almost, in my view, a worrying sign. Especially in the light of my opinion that this debate is ridiculous in nature.
I don't know how much I can extend to discussion of the US as a nation, to be honest, or whether the granting of rights to minorities is something to be done on a state-by-state basis. Otherwise I would reiterate that this is, as always, a matter of defining what "marriage" is and untangling the legal ramifications, undoubtedly now a bitter task for many.
