I was at the lunch table today and a bunch of guys got on the subject of women in the military. We had a big discussion over it and winded up arguing in the end lol. What do you all think?
Here is my opinion. Anyone who is willing to give there life for this country should be respected no matter if they are male, female, white, black, purple, etc. Also women have been a big part in our armed forces. They are also statistically better marksmen. The point I make is that women are a good improvement to the military and some of our best soldiers are indeed women.
Having served in the military, I have to say that I see no reason to discriminate by gender, but the military is "old school," and they are hung up on a great many traditions, pomp, and circumstance. It will probably take another 50 years before women are as fully accepted as men are.
There is another sensitive reason why women have not found greater roles in the military: the idea of them being maimed and killed in combat is hateful to a great many people. There is a reason why we have traditionally tried to save women and children first; they represent the future of any society. Men have always been seen as more expendable.
its just wrong seeing a women die, i think. but i think that its, idk, like a different feeling when men die. like tanstaafl28 said, it the main point of battle is to SAVE the women and children. i dont know how to express it, i dont wanna discriminate, but at the same time, i dont feel that women should be in the military
I disagree. A family can do fine without a mother, just as it can without a father. Granted, a single parent is worse off then a couple, but I don't see the necessity of a mother over a father.
