Wht do we have religion? Because to me it seems that we only have religion to comfort you or the past. Religion also seems that it is supposed to heal sins. How do we know all of this without some proof? (I'm a christian) Like do we have any bones of adam and eve? I'm just trying to get answers to questions. Thank you!
Religion, by definition, means a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. However, I would say that we have religion because everyone desires to belong and have a purpose, and religion is many people fulfillment of that.
I don't believe in "religion," I believe in a relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior.

So you have religion. Cool.
Anyway, religion is really nothing more than an attempt to explain the unknown. Our origin, our purpose, what happens when we die, etc. Really it boils down to "I'm afraid of dying".

You know what jesus told me? he said your two were in an open relationship, I think he's been going behind your back having affairs with others, better check that out.
Well we are speaking of main stream Christianity, are we not?
But whatever, here are some verses that may have started the ideas.
Matthew 13:41-42 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 18:8-9 If thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction.
Revelation 14:10-11 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Revelation 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Please not these are all in the NT. Some of the Torah suggests that everyone goes to heaven, and still some other parts suggest that the people who don't go to heaven just die.
Actually the bible only describes hell as a lake of fire, a bottomless pit, the fire that can never be quenched, that there is wailing and gnashing of teeth of those who are in hell, torment with fire and brimstone.
In regards to the only two verses spoken by Jesus he may have been referencing a burning valley of trash near his various travels. As for the weeping and gnashing of teeth I can only assume that if hell is real some would cry and gnash their own teeth over the pain of knowing they could be in heaven. In fact that covers all of the non-revelation verses.
It's been debated for ages in the Christian community if Revelations is a book written literally or symbolically and even if it is written literally the lake of fire is a punishment after Jesus returns and therefore wouldn't currently be in existence.

Wow samy, it sure is nice to know the Bible verses don't mean what they say! What would we do without you telling us what the people who wrote the book actually meant!
There is a quote here...It goes something like "Every man is convinced the Bible means what he thinks, not what it says" Or something to that effect. When I have more time I will get the actual quote...

Who the frick cares what the Christian community debates? I am assuming the people meant what they wrote, not what other people want them to say. And last I checked physical objects, especially large holes that spew fire, have a tenancy to stay in one place...
And, if you actually look at the scripture, no one is in hell right now. Hell will not even be made until the return of Jesus to establish the eternal kingdom. The bible says that hell will be the earth.
2 Peter 3:7 2 Peter 3:10 Revelation 20:7-9 Revelation 20:14-15 Ezekiel 28:15, 18-19 Psalms 37:38 Matthew 25:41
Also, the ideas of hell are varied, and are a result of several words used which have all been translated into the english word hell. These words are Gehenna, Hades, and Sheol. The only word used to refer to the place where Satan dwells is Tartarus. All of these words, in their original context, have different meanings.

I'm glad to know that you've put thought into this instead of just googling "bible verses about hell" I'm sorry let me go back to being wrong and not saying anything. Seriously? Social implications and context have everything to do with this book, research it's your friend.

In most religious practices visions can be seen as symbolic or literal even by the person receiving the vision. I still don't know what you don't understand about the fact that if an omnipotent being exists it can do whatever the hell it feels like.
I'm not saying that the bible is right in any sense just that sometimes it's useful to understand what you're copying and pasting.
Oh, and the concept of devils, pitchforks, and chains were placed into common cultural ideas primarily by Dante Alighiri in the 1300s by his "The Divine Comedy" which was comprised of three works, "Inferno", "Purgatorio", and "Paradiso". The ideas of hell as a literal torture were not even introduced into mainstream Christianity until the 7th century CE and took some time to become popularized.
