I don't really know that much about Holland, except I believe it's landlocked in Europe...okay maybe not landlocked. At least I know it exists, alright?

well, as a german living in holland I think I can claim to know the dutch;

the dutch are sometimes called rude, but they don't mean it rude if they say straight forward what they think.

dutch cheese has to be from holland. if it's not from the netherlands, it will tast like plastic.

dutch politics... well it could be worse. not verry much worse, but...

BYCICLE TRAFFIC LIGHTS RULE

smoking pot is not considered cool here! well, that is interisting!

dutch food tradition... whitch dutch food tradition?

tall. luckily, I am tall too.

SMALL country. really. you can go from groningen to maastricht (most northen and most southern city) in a five ours. and that is with traffic jams.

and do never. ever. call the netherlands holand if there is someone dutch around.

1. Marijuana is legal over there.. FTW! :P
2. Your national soccer team is great!
3. I heard you've got some problems with growing Antisemitism beneath Moroccan and Turkish teenagers. Frederik Bolkestein (former EU-commissioner) said that (orthodox) Jews should go to the USA or Israel... And I think that's pretty sad... Do you really have that many problems with Muslims over there?
Maybe that's why Geert Wilders has so much support.

Soon it will only be to citizens, not tourists (so I hear, but I need to look that up)

I loved Holland! The countryside was beautiful. The culture and food was also great. Some of the friendly folks I met in Europe were there. It's one of my favorite countries.

Also, Holland has some interesting regulations and laws on Euthanasia that I find interesting. In some of the hospitals they will actually posts statistics on the amount of money is costs to keep someone alive that is a vegetable, it's a reminder to the doctors apparently. I also read that one of the biggest fears from senior citizens is their doctor performing euthanisiation (sp?) without their knowledge, but clearly that's just misinformation.

My father took me when i was seven and put me on his knee. He patted my back and said the words i still live by to this day,

"If you ain't Dutch, you ain't much"

Wise words. I do not call myself a hollander, but merely a dutch. There's difference in that, and I'm not from Holland. I'm from Drenthe, so my respect, as many people don't see that. Though it's not really an offense anyway.

It can be bad, at times. For example, Theo van Gogh was murdered by a muslim extremist for offending the islam. I know plenty of good muslims, but if theyre not "enlightened" enough, they can become a real nuisance. But Besides the murder and terrorism, it's quite like the christians. They can be easily offended due to their religion. Long live Buddha (well, I'm not a buddist, but It's the closest religion to me anyway, and maybe not being anything is being a buddist, because it was buddha who didnt want followers, but wanted people to believe what THEY believe, and not what others believe, and this, I support GREATLY)

And 'Hollander' is the name which foreigners call us.
If we have to say we are from the Netherlands (or Holland), we call ourselfs Dutch, not Hollanders
Just like Healmeal said, it's not an offence.

Still, I prefer to be called a Drent heheh.. Though Im used to being called a Hollander, and well, it's the most important part of our country anyway.

Well, we still sing 'Hup Holland Hup,' so something just isn't right (:
And I prefer to be called a 'Brabander,' but yeah...

Haha yeah too true. Well, that's probally because we're used to holland :P And well, we all know what it means anyway, and that's what counts right

Yeah, well, some people around here have actually read about that, so some might, but indeed, most won't :P But oh well, what does it care, we're participating in the thread and this is actually on topic, so nothing illegal. How come actually so little people know this difference?

hey, healmeal, I'm a drenth too. even if in my passport stands that I'm german, I'm born in Sneek, raised in Z-O friesland, and live already for six jears not more than 10 kilometres from Emmen!

'on topic'

about Geert Wilders: he is right at some points, but he exagerates so mutch that I can only laugh about it. but it is more something to cry over. why does he say: 'if a foreigner commits a crime, he/she has to go where he/she comes from!'? that means: if someone really annoys me, I lose my nerves, and we get into a fight, (so: mishandeling, don't know the english word.)= a crime, I am kicked out, to germany. my german is not good enough to pass exames, so that means no uneversety for me anymore! that means harz4, for I don't know how to do something, exept learning! that means a ruined future at the age of 15! and I'm not the only one: WTF!

Maybe you heard this year that the Swiss people accepted a law that allows to send criminal foreigners "home" (known as the "Ausschaffungsinititive&quot. And actually I'm in favor of that.

I haven't really heard much about Geert Wilders, just that he's a right winged populist and very anti-Islamic.
