I find the people who can't stand reading tend to be the same people I expect to grow up and one day earn the prestigious job of getting to collect mine and everyone else's garbage once a week.
I agree. If you can't stand reading, then you probably can't stand learning in general. SO obviously people like that aren't going to pursue a higher education and a better job. They're the types who drop out 2 years into high school and 10 years later are drug addicts with 7 kids, each with a different father.
Yes. Do you know how annoying it is in class and how slow it goes, simply because the person reading can barely read? Plus, if you don't read anything, how will you learn about most of the stuff in the world?
It depends what they were being forced to read and why. Being forced to read random fiction books for no reason I don't see a point in but, is its to teach you something you need to learn for everyday life or for a job then yes.
The United States has compulsory schooling just like Cuba has compulsory schooling...it's just for the good of the people and the community to force them to learn how to read.
No, people shouldnt be forced to read. I personally love to read, but alot of my friends hate it.
yeah but reading is a key thing to be able to get information and to process them. i read a report recently about the abilities of remebering information through different media. ppt presentations were worst, followed by tv news. reading was the source of information, where you are able to remember most. and in newspapers and magazines you get much more detailed information about topics then on tv news.
so yes i think everyone should know how to read fluently and the parents and the school system should do everything possible to motivate kids to read more.
the medium on which you read does not matter. to me there is no difference between reading something on a webpage or on the paper
I think you should speek, read, and contribute to the area you live. If you can't speek English, stay out of the US. At least learn one of the 4 major languages, English, French, German, Japanese
I mean, learn it enough to order food at a restraunt. It takes one year to learn a language enough to talk to some one. It takes effort, and you will never learn if you don't try.

most people in every country learn enoguh to order food. that is done in a week.
and yes i agree that people should be able to talk in the language of the country they are living in.
but also should the country that is welcoming them help them and support them in learning the language as quickly as possible.
