As some of you know, the AK-47 is among the easiest of fire arms to produce, the most invunerable to jammming, and extremely easy to maintain. It would cost far less for the U.S to use the AK-47 than it would for them to use the M-16 or the M4 carbine, both of which need special cleaning kits to ensure long-term use. And they both require weeks of training for soldiers to use them correctly
the AK47 has more recoil, thus harder to aim after the first shot. Does anyone here ever fire one? I doubt it. I don't see why people are still talking about this.
Fight fire with fire. Almost every conflict the U.S. has fought in since WWII has been against the AK47. Kalashnikov never put a patent on it so it is cheap to make.
The problems it has such as a loud click when changing settings from one shot to auto etc. are very annoying in a combat situation, especially when you are trying to be quiet (it's a wonder how the Vietcong managed to keep so hidden). However this could be easily fixed the the "advanced" U.S..
The Metal Storm weapons can be fired at that rate because there are no moving parts and the bullets are fired by using an electrical current. Metal Storm weapons would be hopelessly impractical because as Fritz said, its just to much ammunition to have to produce and thusly not cost efficient at all.
Anyways, back to the current topic, I think that the U.S. should just stick with what they have. Although the m4 jams easily compared to the Ak-47, the m4 can hold more rounds, has less recoil, and is largely more accurate.
Others who have argued that the Ak has more stopping power and it can shoot through walls have forgotten the fact that you can't shoot what you can't see. What good would being able to shoot through walls do if you cannot see what you are shooting at?
To Armed_Blade (first page) We are the last thing from the richest country in the world unless debt is considered rich, we are trillions of dollars in debt to china and we are slowly catching up on that but if you mean we are richest by GDP (gross domestic product) then yes we are.
As for the subject of AK-47's I would have to go with the common answer of "Not going to happen" because of the accuracy of the M16 it is one of the best guns out there, and on the budget we have for military spending and the amount of wars we have going on right now we need guns that are more powerful and more accurate, we need these things because if a war was to come to our homeland many people would die upon the first day of the war, I mean sure we have strong defenses but we can't risk other countries coming here, thats why we need special training and experienced military personnel to go in and get the job done and get out, thats what the U.S. military does. OHHRAH!
I'm sorry, but just lol to this thread. I mean, nearly 150 post on the topics of: 1. What's best to kill people with. 2. Who's best at killing people. 3. Who spends the most on killing people. And God knows what else. Come on people, get a grip.
