As some of you know, the AK-47 is among the easiest of fire arms to produce, the most invunerable to jammming, and extremely easy to maintain. It would cost far less for the U.S to use the AK-47 than it would for them to use the M-16 or the M4 carbine, both of which need special cleaning kits to ensure long-term use. And they both require weeks of training for soldiers to use them correctly

please post your opinion!

I doubt the US would have them in their army, but hey, it's a great gun

You guys are shit heads. If you knew anything about an AK-47 you would would realize that that gun is "cool" for you dumb ass game nerds but isn't as good as an M16. My dad hates dumb ass nerds like you! 7 year soldier,he should know.

Wow mate, that's quite impressive, you *** out the swear words.

But back on topic, this is some info on AK-47's for those on the wires:

The AK-47 (contraction of Russian: ÐвÑÐ¾Ð¼Ð°Ñ ÐалаÑникова обÑазÑа 1947 года; Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa 1947 goda; "Kalashnikov's automatic rifle model of year 1947&quot is a 7.62 mm assault rifle developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov in two versions: the fixed stock AK-47 and the AKS-47 (Sâ"Skladnoy priklad) variant equipped with an underfolding metal shoulder stock.

Design work on the AK began in 1944. In 1946 the rifle was presented for official military trials, and a year later the fixed stock version was introduced into service with select units of the Red Army (the folding stock model was developed later). The AK-47 was officially accepted by the Soviet Armed Forces in 1949. It was also used by the majority of the member states of the former Warsaw Pact. The AK-47 was also used as a basis for the development of many other types of individual and crew-served firearms.

It was one of the first true assault rifles and, due to its durability, low production cost and ease of use, remains the most widely used assault rifle in the world - so much so that more AK-type rifles have been produced than all other assault rifles combined.

We have the Soviets to thank for such an awesome rifle.

@Fritz your supposed to cite where you got that info if you copied it

@GSE your father is issued an m16, he doesn't get to choose

it all depends on what type of terrain/how much money you have

m16 is accurate and deadly but jams and is costly to make

ak47 barely jams at all and is cheap to make, not so good on accuracy though

hmmm... I don't think anyone addressed this before, but as to all the people saying that the Ak isn't accurate when firing in fully automatic mode: if you are shooting a gun in full auto mode, you aren't really trying to hit the enemy, you are trying to make them duck/stop shooting. If you want accuracy, just shoot single fire.

Sorry Graham, I got my info from wiki about Ak47's.

AK's are cheap to make, don't jam, but people still don't like them for some reason mates, I just don't understand that.

People don't like them for what they represent not their ability at what they do. They represent that revolutionary spirit. Mozambique has a few on the official seal I think. Some people see AK's as anti-west maybe.

True, most people think of AK47's as uncivilized weapons, and that only poor countries that operate with the black market use them. That's what I feel anyway mates.

The soviet armed forces stopped using the very first version of the Ak-47 with versions that had more perks after the war in Afgahnistan. ( I probably didn't even spell that country name right lol ) But an AkM-47, AKS-47 or an AEK-971 whatchamacallit is still always an AK-47 that came from Mikhail Kalashnikov. And therefore, still fits into the question, "AK-47 for the U.S army?"

i don't see why you would need somthing that can blow off some one's head from over 80 yards away. Anywhere between 200-500 yards is all you need in most battlefeild scenerios.

That is partly true. The AK is very cheap to produce so poorer countries do use them.

I agree Drace, if you look at the Somalian scuffle with the US. The US had M-16's and the Somalians had AK-47's, and they managed to kill quite a few US troops.

That there shows that the AK should not be put down so lightly, it's a powerful weapon.
