There's these commercials that are talking about how the use of the word 'gay' as a way to describe something bad is wrong. There's alot of people that use the word gay in a negative type of way just in spite of the commercials. What do you feel about those commercials or using the word gay as a way of describing something bad? Do you think that is protected by the 1st amendment rights? Just wanted to see what people thought about it.
Haven't seen any of those commercials, but as it says in my About:
I'm sick of people using 'gay' as a slur. If you ever say 'this is gay' about something because you think it's bad in some way, consider yourself punched in the stomach.
Gay originally meant happy/jolly/joyful. I can live with it as a slang for homosexuals, because of some liberation stuff and such, but to take it and use it as 'bad' is completely against the original meaning of the word, and offensive towards the newer and more commonly acknowledged meaning.
Theres nothing wrong with either gay or homosexual people. The bad part isn't the fact that people use it as a curse, but that they hate the homosexual people themselves. Everyone has their own right, to be gay or not.
Another basher with a radar!! Got to ask, how do you know is someone is gay, because, well, I think it is rather hard to know, unless they are actually kissing... Besides, that's not even disgusting, just a little sweet sometimes, as long as it is not done all the time. The same goes to hetero couples, though.

I agree with thelistman. Even though i can see that it is an offensive term, it has become cliche. Many people that use it are not homophobic at all. If you are interested in gay rights there are plenty of other more important causes to advocate than the use of gay as a slur.
