There's these commercials that are talking about how the use of the word 'gay' as a way to describe something bad is wrong. There's alot of people that use the word gay in a negative type of way just in spite of the commercials. What do you feel about those commercials or using the word gay as a way of describing something bad? Do you think that is protected by the 1st amendment rights? Just wanted to see what people thought about it.
Now having the the word, "gay," is one thing. Using in a demeaning way is something simply horrid. Everyone knows what it means, and who it hurts. There is just no reason to put that on TV.
It is so rude and derogative when I hear the word gay being used in basically every sentence spoken my middleschoolers. They basically call anything that they dont like or dont agree wiht gay. I find they extremely rude!!!!11 I respect homosexuals. I have nothing against them.
*points at the discussion with Ark* That was about if being homosexual was contagious, and if it was disgusting. Just saying it should go to the right thread, if you wanted to continue that arguement. You do not have to listen, I am not a mod, just saying...
yep. especially if your young. if you were young and your parents were obese, isnt likely that you'll be obese. if your parents are christains isnt likely you'll be christian?
Are your parents gay? If they are not, why worry? Or are you in denial?
But I am, and if you want to continue that conversation yall were having, go to the thread that Cenere kindly posted.
To add on to what I said, there are so many other words that you can use instead of that. To be honest, I still call things gay all the time. I'm going to admit it, but puting it on TV....ugh. There are scripts, and the actors KNOW what is going to be said. If you used a different word, there wouldn't be a problem.
A moderator, Jalex > >....... Estel is a moderator, you have to listen to the mods, or you will be warned and maybe even banned...
The medias have a nice way of making stuff popular. It is pretty much the medias that is in control of everything, and if the medias use the word gay as "bad", then other will too, so again, agreeing with Estel.
Gay shouldn't be an insult anyway because I know a homosexual guy who is cool so it isn't that people think it is bad it is just they are scared of people who are different.

I don't think that everyone who uses the word gay as a slur uses it to bash gays though. I think its just become a fad for everyone.
Well, I'm bisexual and I say things like, "That's so gay" all the time. People need to lighten up.
I believe its just a fad that's going to wear out soon like Twilight xD but I don't think that everyone that uses that way uses to hurt people who are gay.
I remember a case in the news about a primary schools child who called another boy "gay" beacause he was doing something stupid. The next day 3 policeman went round his house and tried to arrest him. I didn't think you could arrest children and even if they could "excessive" I think is the word.
Yes it might be offensive to some, and it is controversial but there's nothing you can do about it. People are allowed to say what they want. Saying "That's Gay" is the same as saying "That's Retarded" , etc. All insults take something that's different and weird and make a generalization out of it. You can't stop people from making up insults. And you can't force someone not to say something because you get offended. You can chose not to listen to them though.

But just accepting something wrong instead of trying to educate people is just as wrong. In the end we can't stop people from saying something but we at least try to educate people about why they should. Sometimes we can get to a person or two.
