I know I'm not the only one tired of seeing repeat suggestions about things we know will be turned down (at least for the time being), so how about making 'do not suggest' thread listing both what shouldn't be suggested and the reasons why? 'Cause I'm tired of always having to type out the same reasons whenever someone make a duplicate.
With such a list, either a link to the list or a copy/paste of the reason in it would be sufficient as a lock message...

Please post your opinions about this, and feel free to post suggestions on what to put on the list.

I dislike the crotchety types who think everyone should know, but this is only to provide context to disproportionate representation. And I'll reiterate a previous thought not on this thread. What is the age of the users who post here in this thread? on the threads that aren't the inane populist colorful, fanciful, keep us busy types? on the threads that are?

Actually, yes, we need to. There are users who KNOW that you need to look before you post, yet they do so anyways (e.g. gold knights with 500 posts, around that general area asking how to do BBCode). It is all fine and dandy if they were newcomers, but that's when they need to teach them that many of us here were months before they started, and common suggestions just get out of hand.

95% of the 1st or 2nd posts will say "This has already been suggested before", or something similar to that. I want some suggestion replies to say "Oh really? I haven't thought of that...". Either have rare suggestions, or let there be none at all, lest you incur the wrath of the mods. It's not that hard to read, y'know? You learned how to before 1st grade.

How?
Do you suppose one should look through a daunting amount of pages? Use a Google search trick one may not know? BBCode help is buried somewhere on the help page. How is one supposed to even know it's called BBCode? If they don't know, how do they look for it? There is a mention of how to bold in the Armor Games FAQ but it says how to use BBCode. How would they know?

I find making up statistics for exaggeration or to make a point, harmful to discussion and the point even.

And I stress again: How? How do you find out what has been done before?

One thing I learned in tutoring others: When you know something better than others, it's easy to get away with the assumption that the other person should know what you know or at least some of the basic precepts. That's hardly the case if they need tutoring. I still make that assumption sometimes. You can roll your eyes or think OMG WTF?! but that helps no one. So I fail to see how "You should NEVER EVER EVER EVER do this!" helps.

Oh, so the thread isn't there for people to know not to post those suggestions, but it's simply something for you to copy and paste to tell them what they did wrong? Why don't you just type that out on word or notepad and save it and use that >.>
Because it's not just for my personal use. . . You should see what I already have...

Half the time I really want the mods to just delete the thread entirely with answers an such, because it always ends up spammy because of all the "good users" who wants to point out it is a dublicate. Especially is the topic has been shot down before. There is no reason to discuss something already denied and discussed.
I actually do that sometimes. Delete the thread, and goes to tell the user in a hopefully friendly tone why it has been deleted...

So I fail to see how "You should NEVER EVER EVER EVER do this!" helps.
That won't be the point. Honestly, creating that thread will somewhat be more of an update to the 'common suggestions', because it needs it. Or well, that's my opinion.
I don't even care much about duplicate threads. Often people just don't know. But that does not mean they have to suggest it again...

I wish our stickies were more prominent.

Each thread is different, and each mod will deal with them slightly differently. If it is a short thread that is a duplicate, it will most likely get deleted. If it has gotten to a few pages, we might leave a note as to why it was locked, and just lock it up. That's because we want people to see why it was locked, and also we don't want to take all the points away. I don't like all the 'this is a duplicate' comments. It's completely spam, no matter how much people think they are helping. Unless they are giving specific reasons, or providing a link to the original, saying 'duplicate' does not offer anything constructive. That is why I tend to delete those comments.

Hmmz Carlie isnt there a way to make the Newcomers read the stickies before they can post on the forums?
I got an old rusty cattleprod but i cannot afford to travel to every person on this forum though.

Maybe its an idea to have a short rules/guideline thingy that has to be accepted before they can enter the forums would be nice. Or am i an foghead that has forgotten that that already exists.
