hey just finshed grade 10 history and i found it amzingly, SICK world war 1 and 2 were so, different then what i though they would have been like, any comments?
Who could've won what? If the U.S. had attacked Japan directly without using atomic bombs? I guess not if that's what you mean. I'd have to say the U.S. would have eventually won, but the losses in men would be astronomical.
As for the dropping of the bomb to stop Russia going into Asia I think its doubtful. Russia was already pretty heavily into pushing on the Eastern front and wouldn't have wanted to fight in the east as well as the west. as Germany found out fighting on two fronts doesn't work.
Pixie, that wouldn't have affected the Soviets. They agreed to join the war against Japan after Germany had surrendered. They wouldn't have fought on two fronts like you said. All I was saying is that some people believe we dropped the second atomic bomb after 3 days because we didn't want the Soviet Union to get involved. I mean really. With the media back then, it would've taken longer than 3 days for the whole government to find out about the atomic bombing and then possibly surrender. I did say that they didn't surrender until after the second one, but that's probably because they didn't have enough time, or at least it was part of the reason.

I mean if the U.S. was attacked on their own soil.
Oh. well I don't know. I think the U.S. still would have won, unless the Japanese destroyed the U.S.'s air craft carriers. Even then I think the U.S. still would have won, but still with heavy losses.
It's a little known fact that Japan did attack on U.S. soil. The Aleutian Islands, part of Alaska, were invaded by Japan but later pushed off by the army.
pearl harbor bombing was before america unleashed their atomic bombs, if any massiv attacks on the US occured today, that involved huge bombings, eventually WWIII would start and that would either end us or screw up the entire world.
plus hawie (or w.e u spell it) is in the middle of the ocean, i don't clissify it as major american soil, i kind think of it as... americas sand box
WWI and WWII history is boring in the US. Mostly because our educational system spreads the propaganda that the US single-handedly won those wars.
In my history classes in high school, there was no mention of the Eastern Front of WWII, despite the fact that 80% of all deaths occurred in that single arena. But giving credit to the Soviets would be considered anti-American and pro-Communist. So any mention of the Soviet Union in WWII is damn near blasphemy in America.
thelist, I live in the U.S. too, and we weren't that stupid when we studied this. We acknowledged anything that happened that was significant, which included death tolls of all countries, no matter which ones they were. It's not blasphemy, and there's a Communist party in America so that doesn't mean anything either. It's legal to be a Communist as long as your goal isn't to overthrow the government in the U.S. Granted, there's not a huge number of them, but there still are some.
oh and by directly, i mean like seriously bombing and immensly attacking, btw japan hasent fought america on american soil
You are horribly wrong, Dacer. At least if you consider Alaska not to be American soil. The Japanese attempted an invasion of Alaska, which isn't well known these days compared to other battles like for instance, Pearl Harbor. If you don't believe me gohere
The battle is known as the "Forgotten Battle," due to being overshadowed by the simultaneous Guadalcanal campaign.

If someone American is reading this and never knew that there was a Japanese invasion on Alaska, I'd be surprised. I don't live in America.
I don't mean to get off topc but if there was a war now with the U.S. they would loose because you would have every country in the world against you just about.
Anyway that was really harsh saying Hawaii isn't really U.S. soil. Especially after everything the U.S. has put them through. They owe Hawaii a lot.
